How do I begin to review O'Tooles?
You have to appreciate O'Toole's for not pretending to be more than what it is. It's an Irish pub in Royal Oak, but it's known less for low key hanging out and enjoying a few beers, and more for cheap alcohol and getting trashed with a combination of everyone you've met in Michigan and total strangers. Their SoCo lime shot is the cheapest shot (under $3 or $4 if I remember correctly) and it's a fan favorite here. They also tend to make drinks on the strong side, so be careful!
O'Toole's has become a staple part of a standard night of going out in Royal Oak. Because of the cheap prices on drinks, it's a solid place to meet up with friends and knock back a few before heading out to other bars/ clubs. Though it's a good place to meet up with your friends, if you arrive around peak hours, you'll have a bad time finding a table. If you do find a table, you'll most likely have groups of people trying to poach it every time you get up for whatever reason.
Thursday night is $2 mug night at O'Toole's, which means you can get a $2 pour of Lebatt or Labatt Blue or Labatt Blue Light in a mug of your choice. They do have a requirement that the mug has to have a handle, and that the mug cannot have a spout (like a blender). If you don't feel like bringing a mug from home, O'Toole's will sell you a plastic O'Toole's branded one for $5.
Overall, I'd say the O'Toole's experience is something that you have to try if you're going out in Royal Oak. It's not for everyone, but going to O'Toole's is always...
Read moreFrom my experience there was nothing wrong with the food or drinks. However, the service was not good at all. We came here to celebrate my birthday with friends and family and during our stay one of the security guards started flirting with my sister in law. He started putting his hands on her back and talking to her, she explained she was in a relationship and therefore off the market. About 30 min later during our food, drinks and conversation... I felt a hand grab me under the armpit and pull me to a standing position and was told I needed to leave the bar immediately. With disbelieve I ask "I'm sorry are u sure you don't have a misunderstanding" Long story short I was physically vacated out of the restaurant and when I had stepped outside my friends and family followed for which they were told by the same security guard, that they could stay. I asked the guy if I could speak to a manager because I truly don't understand what happened for which he then pointed at me and my brother and looked at his fellow Co worker and stated "these ners are trying to cause some sht." I finally got ahold of one of the other security members and explained the situation. for which i was told that apparently "my blinks were becoming too long". Sorry for the rant but felt this place and it's security staff had a different vendetta. One that most likely involved wanting the men of a particular group to leave so that the women could stay. Not knowing our relation to...

Appalling Treatment of Patrons at O’Tooles
I have frequented this bar very often with friends but last night I had the unfortunate experience of visiting O’Tooles and I witnessed one of the most disgraceful and racially biased events I have ever encountered. The incident that unfolded before my eyes left me deeply disturbed and shocked at the blatant disregard for basic human rights and dignity.
Two African American women, who were engaging in a civil discussion with an African American security guard, were unjustly targeted by a white security guard. It was apparent that there was absolutely no valid reason for the guard's aggressive behavior, as the women were not causing any major disturbance or violating any rules.
Instead of addressing the situation with professionalism and empathy, the white security guard chose to escalate it. He physically dragged the women out of the bar, completely disregarding their rights as paying customers. This shameful display of racial profiling and discrimination left me feeling sickened and enraged. I will...
