Palazzo Di Pizza @Palazzo Di Pizza 📍 Royal Oak Michigan Tonight I’m at Palazzo Di Pizza in Royal Oak Michigan. This is by for my favorite Detroit style pizza and the gold standard that I use to measure all others against. Let’s check out what I ordered and see if you should eat here next! 🍕 Hot Honey Ricotta-Roni - $17.00 🍕 Chicken Pesto - $16.50 🍕 Maui - $16.50 (not Maui Wowie, my bad!) 🍨 Pistachio Gelato - $6.00 🍨 Stracciatella Gelato - $6.00 Palazzo is an absolute must stop for me anytime I’m back home visiting Michigan. If you haven’t already been that needs to change because Palazzo is the real deal! #Foodie #Detroit #Michigan #Pizza #DetroitStylePizza

10/06/23: Just updating the review. Although I've moved a bit farther away, making it more difficult to get here, I still come the extra distance for the pizza. Still literally and consistently the best pizza I've had, and that has held up to this day. A family-owned business, Rob, Andrew, and Greg always makes me feel like family every time I go into the store. I always greatly appreciate being treated like a person instead of just a customer, and these guys are wonderful at this. The pizzas?

Their pizzas are all corner slices. The crust on these are to die for; crispy, savory, salty with just the right amount of char. The dough itself has a great yeasty flavor to them. The sauce is thick, but tomato-y, and the ingredients are of high quality.

Their garlic and cheese breads are also excellent, since they use the same dough as the pizza.

If you like ice cream, then they also sell gelato by Palazzolo's Artisan Dairy(name is similar, but not the same as this pizza place). It is a Michigan-made gelato company in Fennville(a city bordering Lake Michigan) and it is really good. They sometimes add little extras to the gelato to give it a bit more pizazz and make it their own thing. Would certainly recommend for ice cream connoisseurs.

All in all, still really happy with this place. Great pizza, bread, and ice cream all in one place. You can't go wrong giving this place a try =03.

Old review 2022: I had a taste for pizza while I was in Ferndale and felt the Papa Romano's nearby wouldn't cut it in terms of quality, so I searched for a highly rated pizza place near the area. Palazzo's was it. At a 4.8, at the very least I expected to be passable. Ordered and paid over the phone. I got the double pepperoni to be safe, and the taste exceeded my expectations. Price was standard for this kind of higher-quality one-off shop. Didn't see the inside of their shop(I arrived after they closed anyway), but it only took them 20 secs after I pulled up to bring my pizza out(didn't even get the chance to call to tell them I arrived). The crust was nicely toasted with a savory-salty taste; just how I like my crusts. It had a lot of pepperoni, but fortunately, it wasn't overly greasy, as I usually have to pat my pizza to absorb the extra grease when I go to other places. The style and taste is certainly comparable to Buddy's, but as first experiences go, Palazzo might have a bit of a leg-up over Buddy's so far. Their BBQ Chicken pizza is pretty good too, just wish they'd cut up the bacon into pieces instead of leaving it as strips. Gelato is AMAZING quality ice cream; a bit pricey, but if money isn't a concern, its worth every penny =03.

If you're in the area, and looking for a good quality pizza, then you can't go wrong by trying...

Friday night pizza has become a bit of a tradition. After a while, though—between making it from scratch at home and hitting up the usual spots—it can start to feel a little too routine. So, I decided to switch things up and finally try Palazzo Di Pizza, a place I’d been eyeing for a few weeks. A food review I saw on IG sealed the deal.

I placed my order around 5:30 PM on a Friday and, not surprisingly, there was about an hour wait. It’s clear a lot of people had the same idea to kick off the weekend. But after that first bite, it was obvious: this place isn’t messing around.

You can tell they care about the bake, flavor, and presentation. Each slice is hefty—thick and satisfying—with that crispy edge that Detroit-style is known for. But this didn’t feel like a gimmick or a greasy indulgence. It reminded me a bit of Niki’s Pizza, but with a distinct identity. It’s definitely not your average Buddy’s Pizza (which everyone seems to default to). This one’s elevated.

I went with the Double Pepperoni, which layers pepperoni both under the cheese and on top as those crispy cup-style slices. The sauce was a medium-thick, tangy red—balanced and flavorful. I also tried the Chicken Carbonara, which surprised me. It had a slightly peppery béchamel-style white sauce, chunks of bacon, mushrooms, and a really nice balance overall. The cheese on both pizzas wasn’t overwhelming but worked perfectly with the toppings and texture.

Ordering two smalls let me try two flavors, basically the equivalent of a large. It cost a little more than just getting one large, but not enough to be a dealbreaker. Two slices were more than enough to fill me up. The crust had that lofty, airy texture with a bottom that’s almost fried—crispy, but not greasy.

Palazzo Di Pizza impressed me. Detroit-style is already a treat for me, so when I do go for it, I’m picky. I’ll always recommend Loui’s first—for its history, charm, and consistency—but Palazzo absolutely earns a place alongside top-tier options. Think of it as a premium alternative to the usual suspects like Pizza Connection and others. It’s legit.

Update as of 10/14/2025:

I would rate this spot 10/10. I have been regularly ordering from here and the consistency is unparalleled. I continue to make my own pizza but when I want something special, or need a night off, this has been an ez choice. I haven’t had a bad experience and typically exceeds all expectations.

I'd like to provide an update to my original review; I've left the original review below unedited, except for a minor correction of changing "New York Style pizza" to "Detroit Style Pizza".

Shortly after writing and posting my original review, I received a phone call from Palazzo. They were outrageously kind and generous in their response to the mix-up with my order. Not only did they refund me the price of the missing breadsticks, they also credited my account with a free order of breadsticks for my next visit. I was not looking for any compensation when I wrote my review (I didn't even think that they would read it - many places don't), but it is clear that they take pride in their business and their relationships with customers, and I feel humbled that they were so courteous to me. I gave them high praise for the pizza that they crafted for me, and they were definitely appreciative to hear about that positive experience.

While on the phone (we actually talked for quite some time), I also discovered that they not only have a freshly-made Gluten Free crust, but their kitchen is skilled in ensuring that cross-contamination is not a risk for their Gluten Free customers. I have a member of my family who has celiac; we will definitely be checking out that option for them in the very near future.

Seriously - go check this place out. It'll be worth it.

--- Original Review Below ---

This is, without question, one of the greatest Detroit Style pizzas in the area. I ordered a Chicken Pesto Pizza and it was the perfect flavor and texture. Was an absolute joy to eat.

It seems like they are carry-out only. That’s something to know before you check it out.

The only thing that disappointed me was that they evidently didn’t check to confirm that they were handing me the right order; I had ordered a side of Break Sticks with my pizza, but when I opened the box, it became very evident that what I received instead was completely different (it had jalapeños on it). For a place that is carry-out only, it’s unfortunate that they didn’t take a quick step to confirm that I was picking up what I had ordered.

It’s definitely worth checking out! Just confirm your order...
