Cute smaller dine-in Asian Restaurant. The huge menu is Sushi/Japanese entrees (noodles and such) and a very complete Korean menu including staples like bibibop and a good BBQ menu. Keep in mind this place wasn't equipped with grills at your table to cook yourself if you are looking for that experience. They cook the meat for you in the kitchen. They also don't serve the traditional little side dish appetizers that I would expect from a place that has such a focus on traditional Korean food. You can order a side of Kim-chi, so that is at least something. The menus are in English and Korean if that is helpful for whatever reason.
Sushi is amazing, all fresh ingredients. I was happy with the prices and portions especially compared to the multiple other sushi options just steps away from here. I've visited a few times and had fine service, but neither was during peak hours. I've tried a few different Korean dishes. So far they are authentic and good, though not amazing. It's the only place to get Korean food nearby so I'm going to keep trying. The menu is enourmous and I've tasted many excellent things. There is a full bar. 3 of us opted for a Sake flight one night, which probably wasn't the best value, but it was fun if you are into drinking flights of things with friends.
I do highly recommended this place if you love Sushi. If you are looking for Korean entrees or BBQ this place is the only one within several miles, so you can get your fix but I've yet to be blown away yet. The Galbi was OK. Price seemed somewhat high for the portion size and I think the beef was maybe overly lean so came off a little dry, but it was definitely passable, the marinade recipe was good. The Kim-chi chigae was also only OK. In my case the flavor including the sourness of the Kim-chi was good, but the Kim-chi was super limp from being overcooked. That could be just a personal taste thing though, but I always liked my Kim-chi to have a little crunch, even in soup. That being said, I'm only saying these things hoping some cook might see and possibly agree and maybe tweak a couple things to the way I like them. I'm going to come back and eat all these again at some point anyway.
Even with the criticisms I've given, I am still giving this place 5 stars. They have so many options and I could go there any day and have 5 star sushi and and I'm sure many other options I've yet...
Read moreMy mom and I went here about a month ago for the first time after hoping to try out a new restaurant in royal oak. We found this place through Google and decided to drive across the border from Canada to check it out. When we got there, the place was empty (discluding us) and we were greeted by the hostess/our waitress. Nothing was too abnormal throughout the meal, the food was very good (but overpriced for the casual atmosphere) and the portions large. Our waitress was very kind and notably referred to us as "beautiful people" throughout the meal. We paid in cash (being from a country with a different currency) and as we were about to leave, our waitress comes up to us to ask "if her service was not satisfactory enough". At first we wondered why, and then realized we had accidentally done the math wrong and tipped her very little. After apologizing from our mistake but being slightly taken aback by the waitresses outright nature in asking (but still assuming that she genuinely wanted to know if she could do better), we rounded off the tip to 13 percent (again - while paying in 20's). After she takes the cheque to the back, we leave to walk back to our car. After we had already walked half a block in the freezing rain, the waitress comes running out of the restaurant after us as if we had forgotten something. When we turn around to answer her yelling "excuse me", she opens her hand to the 13 percent tip we left and asks "did you mean to tip this little?" Absolutely baffled about what had just happened, my mom continues to say yes. Not only did she think it was rude she asked the first time regarding something that's technically optional, but also how she should know you don't chase people to their car saying they need to tip you more money (considering we had paid and 15 is standard.) The waitress proceed to yell about how my mother should know better and needed to learn to do math. Needless to say we will never be coming back and I would highly discourage anyone from trying this place. It's sush a shame we will always remember this place not because of it's delicious food, but because of my mother being chased and verbally harassed by a member of their staff. (Ps after reading other reviews, I've gathered this is a...
Read moreI felt compelled to leave this review because I am hoping my experience was not the norm, but I do see some reviews mentioning a similar experience.
First of all, the food tasted GREAT. I have no complaints whatsoever about the QUALITY of the food. My review is simply to warn others about the experience they might have.
My issue is with 1) the wait time and 2) the amount of food we received for the prices we paid.
Our server, Jeanette, was lovely. She was very attentive and friendly. She even comped our soups because we waited so long for our meal. We were sat immediately, brought drinks immediately, and only waited maybe 10 minutes for our soups. We ordered 5 sushi rolls: eel and cucumber roll ($7.99), Michigan roll ($15.99), Alaskan roll ($7.99), Ninja roll ($14.99), and Baked Lobster Roll ($17.99). My main issue is that we waited a FULL hour for our sushi to come out. I could see there was only one guy in the kitchen and one guy at the counter assembling the rolls. There were only three tables of people including us. One table walked out at some point and I have no idea how long they had been there.
My next issue is the amount of food. Usually when you order a "specialty" roll, it's quite a bit larger than your standard $6.99 roll like a California roll. These rolls were ALL the same size regardless of price. I do understand that the ingredients make a roll more expensive, but I've never seen anything like this at any sushi restaurant. The rolls we paid $15 and $17 for were exactly the same size as the rolls we paid $8 for. Six small pieces in each roll. I'm guessing that's what people in other reviews are referring to when they say they "didn't receive all their food". I wish I had taken a picture, but by the time we got our food we were so hungry that we ate it all in ten minutes.
Like I said, the food tasted GREAT, and the service was fine, but for a $72.03 bill it was extremely underwhelming. Especially to think our soups were comped, which would have made our bill $84.03.
I'm not from this area and maybe I'm wrong to assume this was a rip off, but I felt like I had to leave a review which is something...
