Sushi King — Restaurant in Royal Palm Beach

I really wanted to like this place but i just couldn’t. I asked my husband to get me some sushi on the way home, we live 6 minutes away from the restaurant.. i called the order in for pick up & the lady was flat out rude, didn’t even ask for my name for the order just hung up as soon as she gave me the total.. i ordered a maki combo, a dragon roll, shrimp fried rice and the tuna tartare... it all LOOKED great... i tried the Tuna tartare, it was just a pile of mush.. i even got a piece of what i believe was stale tempura flakes which means they were old, very old. I tried the shrimp fried rice, no flavor and the shrimp were extremely over cooked. I then tried the spicy tuna roll which is always my go to since i love tuna... i couldn’t eat more than a couple pieces, oversized pieces, no tempura flakes and the tuna was mushed so much it could of been paste. I’m not sure how this place has so many good reviews.. maybe it’s good at different times but i figured lunch time would be a no brainer. I really enjoy sushi. We were celebrating an event with a party of 10. We were being a bit chaotic (some of us hadn't seen each other for awhile) The atmosphere for Sushi King was average. No theme to speak of but clean & reasonably comfortable (unless you have a bad back). The waitress was pleasant but she kept forgetting to get the order of 1 of the members of our party. We had to call her back 3 times to place the last order. The menu boasts a huge selection of sushi & we all got something different. The appearance was excellent & each dish looked very appealing. Everyone seemed to enjoy their dinner & 1 of our party even had 2nds. However after we left my spouse asked about my meal. It was OK. I really wanted to like Sushi King, and was hopeful based on the 4+ stars they had in reviews. Unfortunately, it was not good. We had several items from both the kitchen and the sushi bar and none of it was anywhere near decent. The regular steamed rice was not cooked properly, it was dry and hard. The sushi rice lacked the proper ingredients, i.e. vinegar, sugar, etc, and had ZERO taste. The sashimi was not sliced properly. I actually didn't even touch it. The "hibachi steak" was basically just Chinese stir fried (tough) beef with veggies. I come from a sushi restaurant background, my family owned a very successful one for over 25 years in Broward County so I'm very well versed in this area of food. Very disappointed.
