Sharing because of the service my husband received. We have been regulars at downshift for many occasions and travels, whether it was for leisure or traveling through for work. My husband stopped in after work, traveling from Clovis, NM to El Paso, TX. He was almost out of Ruidoso when I asked him if he could bring home one of the fine craft beers for my birthday. He backtracked to Downshift for me. Upon arriving he noticed the stock in the togo fridge was low. He asked about the selection and was told that a growler could be filled for him. He decided to enjoy a flight to decide what to bring. He then asked for a selected beer and was told by another server in the words "WE'RE NOT DOING THAT TONIGHT". (Meaning we're not filling). But it was the tone and response that was with the lack of customer care and service. I understand if the issue was because of low growlers, but the response was without reason and a cold shoulder. I understand your business will continue on with other tourists and regulars, but it's disappointing that we were treated as if our business or personal meant nothing. Downshift will cater and treat people with genuine customer service to those they see worthy or when they choose to do so. Guess my husband didn't look like a good enough dollar value to treat...
Read moreVegans and Vegetarians rejoice!!! There IS quality vegan food in Ruidoso! They have been my saving grace while in town and I am committed to making it through their vegan menu. So far I’ve had the Tofu Bahn Mi and the grain bowel with Tofu. The grain bowl had all the right notes and textures. The Tofu was well seasoned and cooked to perfection. The quinoa was tender and the veggies were fresh. The mushrooms were the perfect amount of funk.
As for the tofu Bahn Mi, it rivals my favorite Vietnamese place. Such soft bread with generous cilantro and peppers. The tofu was well seasoned and just melted in my mouth.
They have some fun cocktails and of course beer! They serve only NM spirits so no Bombay here 🏆 which is how it should be! Great way to support and showcase your regional bounty.
We are visiting during the terrible historic floods and on our first visit, a flash flood threatened so they closed the river front patio where we were sitting with our dogs. They all accommodated us by allowing us to move inside with out Blueys. That is unheard of and we were so so thankful! Great job loving the people who love animals!!!
I’m gonna miss you when...

Beer is fantastic and frequently rotated. Great selection! The coffee porter was smooth and tasty!
We’ve had the Sweet Potato Waffle Fries, the Cheese Curds and the Mushroom pizza, with a side of house made ranch. All of it was fresh, delicious and extremely satisfying. I would highly recommend all of these items.
There’s a stage inside, with a full bar hidden in the dining area. They are always hosting live music, open mic’s and other events- great entertainment!
The outdoor patio is amazing and one of the best parts of this place. There are several levels, covered sections, and all dog friendly, sitting on a small but steep hill overlooking the creek. It is extremely atmospheric and well constructed besides!
The service is very good! Nice, decent folk who are polite and extremely friendly; you can strike up a conversation no problem. The food is relatively quick too.
The price is up there, but which I will reluctantly pay again in the near future.
Overall, 11/10. Proud to be living nearby...
