What's NOT to like about Brown's? Well, I've been eating there for 30+ years and still don't have an answer for that question!
My wife and I recently dined at Brown's on our anniversary, and as usual it didn't disappoint! It's always a first-rate dining experience, that will readily satisfy even the most hardcore of Southern cooking purists.
Everything is utterly delicious, but I especially dream about the fried whitefish, boiled shrimp, Cajun catfish and the fluffy, homemade yeast rolls. Of course, let's not forget the legendary cinnamon rolls! If that were all there was, it would still be great. But, there's also gumbo, baked tilapia, catfish fillets and steaks, fried shrimp, BBQ ribs, crab cakes, the world's best chicken strips, and a HUGE selection of Southern-style sides and veggies (luv dem candied carrots and fried onion straws!), along with excellent salad and dessert bars. And, a couple dozen other things I'm not remembering off the top of my head.
And, that's not all that's great about Brown's, which indeed starts with the food but doesn't end there. The wait staff is just as iconic as the eats, with the best servers you'll find anywhere. ANYWHERE. The atmosphere is pleasant, and the dining areas aren't overly loud even when the place is crazy busy, which is 99% of the time.
Simply put, Brown's is a beloved Russellville landmark for good reason: perfection is hard to improve upon! Keep up the good work, Mr. Al Brown and company! We'll see ya...
Read moreI've been eating at Brown's for nearly 30 years, and it's just as good as it's ever been. This is a real, old-school Southern catfish 'n' seafood buffet with incredibly decadent, top-notch fried food and every conceivable side item, veggie, fixin' and trimming under the sun, and it's one of the finger lickin' good best!
The buffet line begins with a full salad bar, plus lots of cold veggie salads, sides and fixins. Moving along, you'll find an endless array of hot veggies and sides like corn on the cob, pinto beans, yeast rolls, glazed carrots, hush puppies, seafood cakes, gumbo, fried onion straws, perfectly crispy French fries and more.
Of course, we don't wanna forget the boiled and fried shrimp, BBQ ribs, the absolute best chicken tenders in the world, and lots more entree items, but it's the fried whitefish and catfish (regular and Cajun) that are the real show-stoppers. If you saved room for dessert, the full-monty dessert buffet will bring a tear to your eye, and the cinnamon rolls are the stuff of legend around these parts.
Brown's has a reputation for excellent wait staff, and you'll always see Mr. Brown walking around the buffet and dining area, chatting with customers and making sure everything is just right.
The price isn't cheap, but the food isn't either. Southern-style seafood buffet distilled down to its purest form, it's the perfect place for a special occasion or just to satisfy...
Read moreI’ve heard rave reviews about this place, my mom, who is the pickiest eater and critic about her catfish even hyped this place up! So I decided to take my 16 month old and myself for lunch today to give it a go. Right away we were greeted by a smiling very pleasant woman and made us look forward to it even more. $20 later I was disappointed, the catfish was slightly overcooked, the creole was so overcooked I couldn’t even bite into it. My little mini LOVES her fish and she took two bites and wouldn’t touch it anymore, she loved the corn though and the French fries. The hush puppies were decent, I think they could have had more flavor to them though. So honestly on my end the best part was the tea. I was also told that the owner is constantly coming around checking on your experience and I didn’t hear or see anyone doing that. Once we were seated we weren’t checked on again. Maybe it was an off day after the holiday but for $20 I could have made better catfish at home. I do recommend it, for what it was today it was fresh hot food even if it...
