Let me just stop you here for a second. If you are wondering whether to go here or not, just go for it. You won't be disappointed! Now on to the review. I have been going to Tatanka Take-Out for many years now. The original owner had dreamed up something quaint but VERY special. The new owner Nathan and his trusty Chef Zoe have kept that same dream alive and may have even improved on flavors that just can't get much better. Now this place specializes in using Bison meat and all of that meat comes from a small privately owned ranch in Moveridge, SD. If you've never had Bison before it tastes better than beef and is better for you than turkey! My absolute favorite things to get here are the Flawless Burrito and a Spuds X!! I'm telling you this combo is amazing! Anything you get here will be prepared with an extra lump of love from Zoe who has managed to dazzle even a veteran foodie like myself into chewing with excitement:) Everything is so fresh and we'll prepared. Not one single time have I ever left Tatanka Take-Out unhappy and hungry. The outside and inside decor are minimalist and don't really add or take away from the restaurant's allure. The prices are fair, ordering is easy and the company around is always good people. They also have frozen Bison steaks, ground Bison and Take n Bake Lasagna for sale as well. Hours are Wed/Thurs 11am-6pm, Fri/Sat 11am-7pm and Sunday 12-6pm. I really encourage you all to give this place a try and to spread the word. This is absolutely one of my favorite hidden gems in Tacoma and the entire Puget Sound. Awesome food, no drama, excellent owner Nathan and Chef Zoe make this place extra special. Stop in at Tatanka Take-Out and give it a try. Tell them...
Read moreThe white man made a HUGE mistake killing off the buffalo. There is no better flavored meat. In thankful I was driving by and spotted this place. The ambiance does not do the place justice. They need to add more exhaust fans to remove the smoke from grilling. It is unfortunate that I was not able to spend much actual time inside the building because of my asthma issues. One thing I did learn is they get their meat from a highly respected and popular, small, private meat market. They process local animals that are NOT mistreated. Animals that are grain fead and raised out in large open fields. So when you go to Tatanka, you know you are in good, safe, tasty hands. The people who work at Tatanka are super nice and really do a great job taking care of their clientele. Even the difficult ones like me with my asthma issues. I do highly recommend Tatanka and it is so very easy to locate. Best wishes to those who want to try the delicious meat of the original people of America. They also sell frozen steaks and other cuts for home grilling and cooking! Life...
Read moreThere are few places that please me on stressful days. This turned out to be one. Nathan, the owner, was one of the most natural shades of happy I've seen in a long time.
Mr wife ordered the melt with potato salad. Both were good and the melt was bigger than I'd expected. Everything was made with great quality.
I ordered the bison taco and collard greens. The greens weren't overcooked, and the taco was well filled.
I saw the negative reviews and disagree with one of their commonly occurring complaints: portion size. When you buy quality you pay more. I was full by the end of my meal and so was my wife.
Cheap restaurants (ie fast good) have made a large demographic of the American population quality blind. If you need five cheap McDonald's burgers to fill up - you may need to adjust your habits in favor of your long term health.
We tipped Nathan and instead of keeping it he heated up an awesome cookie for us and even cut it in half so that we could share easily. Mad love for this place....
