East Patio Méxicano — Restaurant in Sacramento

Updating to previous review: Had to knock this place down a couple of stars as the quality of the food has taken a dive. This used to be our go-to local Mexican place. Came for dinner after not being here for the last couple of months and noticed that the place has changed, maybe under new management?

The place itself looked much better. All the weird paintings we've come to love have been replaced with more standard ones and the lighting was much brighter than it used to. The service was still great and our server was pleasant and very attentive.

Now the food. The menu was substantially reduced and the prices have definitely gone up (but none of that should be too surprising these days). The salsa tasted different but was fine. The chips on the other hand tasted stale. Our server offered to replace them but it would just be from the same batch. We had crunchy chicken tacos and chicken fajitas. The rice, beans, guac etc. themselves were great. The fajitas tasted fine but had waaaaay more peppers and onions than chicken considering the price. The tacos did not taste good, tasting both very greasy with the filling very slimy.

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be coming back and will be searching for a new...

I’ve been to this place in the past & always thought the food was great and the customer service was top notch but this time it was much different. I put in a DoorDash order for pickup at exactly 8 pm. The restaurant closes at 9 but I’m a 10 minute drive. I arrived at 830 since it said my order would be ready at 840. When I walked in the restaurant the server asked if we were dining in or picking up so I told him I had a DoorDash order. He was extremely defensive saying “we don’t have that order & if we don’t get paid we can’t make the food.” Why he couldn’t just take my order have me pay in person & make the food since I was already there was literally so confusing to me. He stepped away to talk to his manager about it, told me he would call DoorDash and then literally never came back to tell me anything as I sat on the bench and waited for him to come back & update me. He apparently called DoorDash to cancel the order and I saw it was canceled on my phone. He never came back to update me, he was not apologetic, he did not offer to take my order in person since I was already there, & he acted like I was lying. We moved in down the street 2 years ago and this was the first thing we picked up and brought home to eat. I can't tell you how many times we've been back since. We decided even when we move, this will always be OUR Mexican restaurant of choice. We normally split the vegetarian super burrito covered in their poblano sauce and it is always outstanding. The sauce is dream-worthy. Their chips are always hot and crispy and the salsa is fresh with the perfect bite and texture. We often walk over for a weekday dinner with our toddler, who also loves to eat everything we get here. The outdoor patio is great with plenty of room and shade. It has big benches along the enclosed patio wall that our toddler likes to sit/walk on. The staff is friendly. We've brought lots of friends and family the last couple of years and they've all decided this is their favorite restaurant too. My parents call every once in awhile and ask to take us out here.
