Considering this was a brand new Mexican restaurant in a very popular area, I decided to pull the trigger and give it a try. This takes me to the Arden-Arcade neighborhood of Sacramento where I had the opportunity of trying out "Gaspachos 2.0". Located in the outdoor Howe Bout Arden shopping center, this is actually their 2nd location in the Sacramento area with their first being in the South Sacramento area off of Franklin Blvd. and Fruitridge Rd. Many may not realize that the South Sacramento location is exclusively a juice bar that specializes in fruit cups, juices, and smoothies.
The way I look at it, getting into the Mexican food business takes time; especially with creating recipes for tacos, burritos, bowls, tortas, and salads. But I trusted my instincts that this place would hit the spot and it definitely did in more ways than one. Upon entering, the layout was very nicely designed complete with brown walls, light wooden paneling, stitched hanging light fixtures, and clay pots that added the unique look and charm of this place. There is also ample seating and a self-serve fountain drink station.
Since I wanted to try their hot food, I went with a signature favorite of mine, the "Carne Asada Tacos". I went with a trio of these and at $3.29/ea, these are a little bit more on the pricey side. I also went with a 16 oz. size of "Horchata" which was priced at $2.89. Everything came out to about $14 after tax. I decided to sit outside in which case the young lady brought my food and Horchata out within just a few minutes.
After trying one bite of the tacos, these were a real winner. The handmade blue corn tortilla was tasty all in itself. And the amount of Carne Asada meat they included was plentiful. This paired up nicely with the cilantro, onions, and green salsa that I requested. Overall, this was as fresh as you get and I could already tell that this was a smart move with the owners deciding to go the food route. Since this new location also serves up desserts such as fruit bowls, Mangonada, and their signature Gaspachos drink, this place was as good as it gets with the variety.
All in all, "Gaspachos 2.0" is an excellent Mexican food spot that is a big welcome to this part of town. The employees all genuinely care about this business and it definitely showed. Since there is already a burger joint, Korean BBQ, a sushi spot, a poke restaurant, a coffee shop, and an ice cream parlor, this really gives you a ton of options of what your taste buds are craving. My rating, a...
Read moreMy friend and I were going to see a movie and decided to go early and look around the theater area to find a bite to eat. There were several places open, but we decided on Mexican food - and this choice was serendipitous! Of course, my first question is always, "do you have any vegan/plant-based options?"- but in this case, the menu on the screen had several items to choose from - YAY!!!
We both decided to share an order of tortilla chips with guacamole, and we each ordered the vegan taco plate with Spanish rice and a side of black beans. Ian, one of the managers/co-owners took our order and was such a great resource to help us select a healthy and delicious meal. He let us try their house-made "Jamaica" made from hibiscus flowers. It was delicious and we decided to make it into a mocktail by sharing a glass of Jamaica and pouring and equal amount of Perrier - it was SO delicious - and Jamaica has numerous health benefits! The guacamole and chips were excellent - crisp, light, thin and non-oily chips and a simple full-favored avocado forward guacamole. Shortly after, Ivan brought us our taco plates...and we were truly impressed. First of all, the plate is artfully presented and aesthetically pleasing, but it isn't until we took our first taste that we truly appreciated the love going into each delectable bite. We had two squash tacos and one nopales (cactus) taco in flavorful blue corn tortillas with a delightful green salsa- we did our best to slow down and not devour those tacos as they were so tasty! The rice is tomato based (not made with chicken broth as many other places use) and those house made beans were simply the best bean flavor bombs. The side included the freshest cucumber and radish slices, guacamole and shredded cabbage. YES -- this is a great place for "FINE MEXICAN FOOD"- and my new go-to place for fine vegan plant-based Mexican food - I can't wait to try all of their other offerings...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at the charming Mexican restaurant Gaspachos 2.0, and I must say it was an experience I won't soon forget. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by the tantalizing aromas of authentic Mexican cuisine and a warm, inviting atmosphere. The clean and well-maintained store immediately set the stage for a delightful dining experience.
The star of the show was undoubtedly the mouthwatering chicken burrito. Packed with tender, perfectly seasoned chicken, flavorful rice, pinto beans, and a delightful array of fresh salsa, this burrito was an absolute revelation. The combination of flavors and textures danced harmoniously on my palate, leaving me longing for just one more bite. Additionally, the birria tacos were a true standout, with the succulent, slow-cooked beef offering a rich and savory flavor that was simply irresistible.
Furthermore, I was thoroughly impressed by the friendly and attentive staff. The employees exuded a genuine warmth and hospitality that made me feel right at home.
