Leatherby's Family Creamery — Restaurant in Sacramento

I feel like high prices are a part of life these days, and prices here reflect that but not out of line with everywhere else. However we shared a huge sundae and got extra whipped cream...the real stuff at no additional cost. This place serves so many outlandish decadent ice cream delights, and the atmosphere is celebratory yet quite comfortable, clean, and practical with easy care flooring, sturdy booths, and spacious seating. The wait staff is well groomed and uniforms are old tyme with aprons and bonnets for the females and similar for the guys. It's a place kids would never forget.. festive, huge desserts, yummy sandwiches, and nothing stuffy about the experience. The toppings are sold there too, and we picked up some caramel sauce. If you are craving ice cream, or a rich crab sandwich or juicy burger, fries, a giant shake overflowing with ice cream and home made thick whipped cream topped with a perfect tasting red cherry, get on over there. You can park right out front, wash up before and after in a nice roomy bathroom, and be served by knowledgeable, polite, upbeat, staff who greet you on arrival, accommodate your appetite and send you off satisfied and smiling. Leatherby's has been a family favorite for years! We often have a group of 20+ coming to celebrate a birthday or life event and we can show up without a reservation and sit on the group seating side. Staff is friendly and surprisingly efficient even with a bigger group. With the remodel, even the 2-6 person tables are sufficiently spread out to enjoy ice cream with friends. They also have a walk-up counter if you don't want to sit down to eat your ice cream.

Over the past few years, they have expanded their food menu to include a much better (and more expensive) selection. Everything from salads, burgers, sandwiches, to chicken is delicious!

This place is constantly busy, regardless of season and their quality never wavers. You can actually watch them make their ice cream, hot fudge, or caramel on location through the large glass to the production room. Their fresh hot fudge is to die for!

Their ice cream servings are as large as they are expensive, but so worth it as the saucer plate they serve the ice cream in is nearly overflowing with delicious sweets.

As a bonus, they sometimes are featured on Groupon, and they have coupons in the Entertainment book for Sacramento as well. Leatherby's is a must-do for families looking for...

I have been coming to this location my entire life! There's something about the smell right when you walk in and fresh ice cream and food it takes me right back to some of my greatest memories as a kid. That may not be the case for everyone who comes to the store especially if you've never been here before. But you'll notice from the moment they greet you the moment you leave that this place runs things differently. Say answer to a higher power, and they expect their waitstaff to treat you as if you were family. I have never had a bad experience here, knock on wood, in fact I'm greeted constantly with smiles and multiple check-ins from various staff. I religiously get the mocha Royale with fudge. Everyone I bring here I make sure they try the fudge. I've gone ice cream places across United States and I have never had as delightful of a fudge on my ice cream. The cream itself is very creamy, on every flavor it's consistently sweet, rich in flavor, and the texture is perfect. When you stop by make sure to try one of their Tuesday specials, or meal deals.
