We went in on a Saturday busy morning and was still able to get a nice booth in back near bathroom that was just right for our small family. The decor coming in was such a delight to look at and had various pieces of art history along their walls, very nice appeal. We didn’t have to wait long for a waitress, surprisingly since we mistakenly came on a very busy time of day for our first visit. Now you would think that a frazzled waitress would have been sent but oh no, we were pleasantly surprised by the sweetest and most kindest waitress that you just don’t see that often anymore. What a sweet dear she was to us all and to our specific dietary needs including vegan, making sure we were all able to order what we wanted without sacrificing on taste or variety of ample servings. Our son wanted to try the fries in the cool retro car box, and our sweetheart of a waitress made sure our son had a basket of fries in the car added with his meal. Again being busy time of day, you would think our lovely waitress wouldn’t have been able to check up on us or keep water glass full, but she really kept on top of everything little item our family could have possibly needed, down to extra sauce or butter. The food was absolutely amazing too and nothing was burnt or tasted off, everything down to the strawberries on top of the Belgium waffle was fresh and delicious. But our whole experience was the best because of such a wonderful and truly amazing waitress named Tiffany, she was the cherry on top and definitely should be given a raise or promotion or something the way she handled ours and other diners as more than just customers but like a family. Thank you you Tiffany, you have made this Original Mels our new family favorite place to have fun. šŸ˜ƒšŸ’

I took my 2 grandkids to Mel’s dinner on How ave. And I have been to the other Mel’s in Sacramento and was always happy with the food. But this time I was so disappointed my grandkids hamburgers were so over cooked and dry it looked black and the buns didn’t look good either it looked like I got it from a school cafeteria. I had The roast beef French dip also dry no taste if it wasn’t for the juice to dip it in. It would’ve had no flavor at all roast beef look like from a deli and very dry. it’s like they Slapped the meat between two pieces of bread that’s it. I felt like the Cook shouldn’t be a cook He put no effort into his cooking. It was disgusting for such a high class place. I spent $80 and was so disappointed. The owners should really teach their cooks how to make juicy hamburgers. Don’t like giving bad reviews, but this was horrible. I won’t be going to this Mils diner again.

This diner is such a gem! The food was authentic, delicious, and served hot and fresh—just the way it should be. Cozy atmosphere with that classic diner charm you don’t find anymore. My breakfast was absolutely perfect: fluffy eggs, golden French toast, crispy potatoes, and a hot cup of coffee that kept coming. What really made the experience even better was Jennifer, she was such a doll! Friendly, attentive, and genuinely sweet. She made me feel right at home and made the visit extra special. Highly recommend if you want great food, great service, and that nostalgic diner feel. Presentation was so cute. Second location I’ve tried and it’s still hits the spot! La la loved it šŸ„žā˜•ā¤ļø

Went in to have breakfast after my husband got out of surgery. We were sat and automatically asked what we wanted to drink not given a second. Then we were barely given anytime to look at the menu before the server came back to ask us what we wanted to order. My husband had a question about their soup and after he answered the guy just started taking his order... I wasn’t even ready yet and was still looking at the menu. I felt rushed so I just ordered the same as my husband. While he was gone I decided to just get something else because I didn’t really want what I ordered and just take it home to my daughter instead. So he came back I asked for a to go box for the food they had already brought and I ordered what I wanted. I waited for my food thinking I was going to get it on a plate and be able to eat before I left....nope. Instead the waiter brings us to go boxes and he gives us our check prior to doing this. I was very angry...I had ordered hash browns eggs French toast the normal breakfast food and you know what happens when you take that type of food to go...it gets cold and tastes nasty...by that point I was just like F it and we left. The waiter seemed like he was in too much of a Hurry like he was on meth or something the way he was acting...he was a sorta skinny white guy very fidgety and talked super fast. Wish I got someone else. Please hire people that aren’t on drugs and let your customers at least have a little time before you try and take their order. Highly disappointed never will go...

We were 3 adults 2 children, a 10 month old and a 2 1/2 year old. Told 2 year old he couldn't have a balloon till after lunch, waitress proceeded to tell him it's ok you can have it now. Seated us at a small corner booth, had to ask for high chair 3 times. price charged was different then was on menu (kids). Hubby had fish sandwich was mostly bread, lettuce and tomato, fish was half the size of the bun. Grandkids mom had french dip again mostly bread. I opted for a bowl of chicken noodle soup, bowl was maybe a 10 oz. Bowl, I should have ordered a cup would have probably been more soup, the soup was delicious, wish it would have been more . Over all slow service, only 4 other customers there, way to expensive, soup 6 dollars, fish 11, french dip 15 and 2 year olds mac and cheese charged 8 dollars menus price was 5.49 didn't realize was over charged till we had gotten home. Total bill 42.39, Wow ! Have always liked Mel's, well until this one. Worst Mels we have ever been to.

Not worth the price. Have been to many Mels over my 65 years, sorry to say this may have been our last dining experience with Mels, was truly a bad experience. We are retired on a limited income dining out for us is a treat, the money we spent could have gone to better...
