Lovely dining experience while we were on vacation. Took a few minutes to get seated since we were there during a Friday night for dinner. There were about 7 tables available in the place when we arrived and only 2 people were seated at the sushi bar.
Staff members were polite and personable. Our waitress (Angie?) was very efficient and attentive.
For drinks, we ordered green tea without milk, 1 honeydew, and 1 peach. Tea was on the sweet side, but the ice helped mellow it out.
Soup and salad were included with dinner. Soup was clear mushroom broth. Salad was simple and fresh - lettuce, stringed carrots, a few slices of cucumber and tomato, mixed with house dressing.
For dinner, my husband ordered filet mignon & salmon filet. I ordered the sashimi deluxe with a side of rice. The fish was fresh, and my husband enjoyed the filet mignon.
Facilities were very clean, even the restrooms. The only complaint that we had with our visit was the occasional strong smell of bleach that hit the air when a table was cleared. Not sure if that's just a ventilation issue or using extremely strong cleaning products. Either way, the odor mildy interrupted our dining experience, but didn't ruin it since it dissipated a few minutes after noticing it.
Excellent date night spot with fresh food and great prices. The entire dinner cost about $80, excluding a generous tip. We'd come back again if we're in the area....
Read moreMy wife and I were in St Augustine for our one year anniversary. She remembered in the past a place where she and her mom had eaten sushi that was really good. We tracked down where this place was and ordered some food. My wife and I usually have sushi about once a week so we're pretty particular. When the food came out we were both blown away by the plate presentation. We told the server how impressed we were and later told her that we were on our anniversary. When we were almost finished eating she brought out a little dessert surprise for us. And again completely blown away. If my wife and I lived in St Augustine we would be coming to this place at least once a week. So if you're looking for place to eat sushi that tastes great and goes above and beyond. Sushi Zento needs to be number one on your list. We went back to St Augustine for our two year anniversary and had to stop at Sushi Zento. Like I said before we eat sushi about once a week. And Zento continues to be the freshest sushi we eat anywhere else we go. Even the rice had a flavor and texture that is superior to other places. I just had to post a couple pictures and give it...
Read moreI would like to give Sushi Zento & Grill 4.5 stars. It was a nice surprise that they offer clear soup and a Holiday roll appetizer (deep fried) with every meal. We went for dinner one night and lunch (my teen son wanted to have a bento box) 2 days later. The service was very friendly and attentive. For dinner, my son had the udon bowl and I had Da Bomb roll. Both were good, not great (7.5 out of 10). I’m not a fan of cooked sushi, so the Da Bomb roll was not a good choice for me. They have MANY cooked sushi rolls, if you’re into that.
For lunch, the bento boxes (salmon & shrimp tempera) were better — very good (8 out of 10). The portion size of the salmon was generous but was covered/smothered in teriyaki sauce. The restaurant seems to rely on sauces on their sushi and other dishes for flavor.
The great surprise treat was dessert — as you can see from the presentation in the picture. My son chose derp-fried cheesecake, which was good but I would have preferred it without the batter. Definitely worth a visit but don’t expect world-class sushi. (It is in a strip msll, after...
