We come here about 3-6 times a month we have always had amazing service and food. My in laws are in town and asked to eat here so we said heck yes. I walk in (me, my 2 kids, mother and father in law) the lady doesn’t say a word just starts grabbing menus so I say 6 adults 2 kids again nothing she starts to walk so we follow. My kids are trying to figure out where nana is going to sit so I called my oldest to me to get out of the lady’s way as she is pulling up another table and she says “6 and 2 there isn’t enough seating hold on” I wasn’t even talking to her just wanted my son out of her way so my mother in law sits down and we are getting my kids situated she says “do you need more time or anything” my mother in law says “well wait for everyone” the lady says “you don’t want drinks or anything” my mother in law and I both say no well wait so she rolls her eyes and walks off. My husband comes in and I said new waitress now you won’t mesh with her and went to walk away to take my son to the bathroom. My husband says hold on what happened so I start telling him and all of a sudden she becomes the nicest person and says “no sir I didn’t give her attitude” so I walk away and let him deal with it. I come back and he says she is the manager and has been for 23 years. She comes back and says you’ll have to reach the own by FB. So I message the page. After we leave (we got a new server). I get a call and the owner was basically making an excuse for the manager and backing her story. The manager called and said she never gave attitude she was confirming 6 and 2 which no she wasn’t she was rude from the jump. The owner said her mom recently passed and moving her dad is hard and she probably had a bad call or something before we walked in….she could have went in the back counted to 10, had a smoke break anything something. She is working in customer service and no need to give attitude when I didn’t do a thing to her. I am sorry she is going through things but so are a lot of people. I have cancer and 2 young kids (6 and 8) but I’m not out here being rude to the world. Life sucks….she could have called off or like I said taken a moment for her to regain composure but she didn’t then proceeded to down play what happen. Nothing will be done as she is the manager for 23 years but I will always ask for another waiter if I see her again!! I wasn’t looking for anything free but an apology would...
Read moreWe met another couple here for a Valentines Day lunch. The hostess was very nice, advising us about street vs garage parking. We were parked in a 2 hour zone which she said would be ticketed if over the allotted time.
The other couple arrived and we put in our drink and appetizer orders. The table shared a plate of deep fried crocodile bites (see photo). They were $9 and just okay, not flavorful or unique. They were searched with a little dish of what appeared to be thin ranch dressing which added a bit of flavor.
I believe I had to ask for the drink menu and was surprised that it was limited and no prices were published. I supposed my surprise was because they had such a long and beautiful antique bar along one wall. They have an extended drink menu online, this one appeared to be more of a smaller Happy Hour menu.
Everyone was happy with their drinks and the wine pour was generous. Maybe 7 or 8 ounces. We put our entrée orders in and they arrived in a reasonable time considering the place had gotten much busier. My blackened Snapper was perfect. My side was not what I expected, it was kind of a thin potato chowder dish but tasted fine. I was expecting some kind of potato casserole but evidently did not ask enough questions.
Everyone seemed fine with what they had ordered. We had driven up from KC and planned on lingering a while over dessert. The waitress didn’t offer us any before presenting the check, which I thought was odd. We are obviously of retirement age, unlike other diners who appeared to be heading back to work after lunch. And it was Valentines Day…
Anyway, I inquired about chicory coffee but it was not an offered menu item and asked for the dessert menu. She showed us the menu, I got coffee and the table shared a slice of bourbon pecan pie.
The food was reasonably priced, and appropriate portions for the time of day. We probably won’t make the trip again, but might stop there if on our way to Omaha or...
Read moreI honestly liked the charm of their other location better but I understand why they had to move so, oh well.
We got there at 5:00 on a Saturday evening and had to circle around several times to find a parking spot.
Our waitress was wonderful! Very pleasant and very attentive. And we got our food in a decent amount of time.
My husband got the chicken fried chicken or steak (I can't remember which) and the Cajun mashed potatoes and loved both! He said they were very flavorful! But my problem with their dishes is you get the meat and one side. I feel like it should already come with a potato and then you can get a vegetable as your side or vice versa.
One of my boys got one of the crawfish dishes and a side of the Cajun mashed potatoes. He liked everything but there again, no vegetable unless you pay extra.
I got the stuffed shrimp and loaded baked potato, which was delicious. But again, you only get a potato OR a veggie, not both unless you pay extra. I think that's a bunch of hooey.
And lastly, my other son got one of the steaks and said the flavor was good but nearly half of the filet was fat and grissel!! Seriously! He's not a picky eater especially when it comes to steak but it's no exaggeration to say that he had to leave about 40% of the filet on the plate due to inedible fat and grissel!! Now I realize this is not a steakhouse but if they're going to offer steak, they should still try to get better quality meat. We definitely don't feel like he got his money worth with his meal. And he got fries and of course no veggie.
We will return because I like their seafood dishes but maybe next time I'll get the Gumbo or Jambalaya so I can get my veggies along with the meat...
