As a traveler I frequent Kips inside the Minneapolis Marriot West, and it has historically been relatively decent food and good service, however this last visit was abysmal on all levels.
When I arrived I was seated quickly which was the only positive of the evening. I sat for roughly 10-15 minutes before being addressed in the quiet restaurant. Upon ordering a Guinness I waited for another 10 minutes while the server disappeared, returned to the bar and struck up a conversation with a coworker, while I watched my beer sit at the bar.
Finally it arrived and my order was taken. I ordered the Angus burger and before I finished the order I was immediately told it must be had pink. I told the server that I wanted very little pink.
The food arrived quick and upon picking up the burger the bottom of the bun was wet and red. I'm not fearful of eating a pink burger, however it was not enjoyable, the first bite was cold all the way through and far too undercooked.
I ate the salad first and waited for the server to come back around and let them know that it was not cooked enough. I finally got to the end of the salad, and then finished the Guinness. Another significant amount of time passed while I waited, watching the server walk past many times, stopping by the few tables being managed to freshen up their drinks.
When they finally came to the table, I indicated the burger was not cooked properly and they said why didn't you let me know. I was disappointed at the lack of awareness that in a standard restaurant, the server comes around and asks how the food is, and everyone politely says it's good with their mouths full of the first bites. I unfortunately did not receive this classic and anticipated interaction.
So I noted that they didn't come to the table once during the meal and asked for my bill. I was delivered a bill for the full amount and left a burger with a bite out of it.
All in all, a very disappointing experience after a long day of travel. Their moto is "authentic tales & friendly ales" - so I guess at a minimum I got an authentic tale out of it to share with my friends and colleagues who come...
Read moreWent here with a friend and came for lunch. I got the corn beef sandwich and my friend got corn beef and cabbage. First, onions are not a good flavor with corn beef in my opinion so I ask for it with out. There was also a very coarse mustard what basically consisted of mustard seed, whole ones and not much of anything else, but when the food came after about 45 minutes, and the restaurant was empty mind you, it had onions on it. I commented to our waitress who was rather rude about it 'um, okay, can you just pick them off' is not something that you say to a customer, especially when it's your mistake for not remembering. So she brought it back. Really fast and it's obvious that they just picked off the onions and put it back together, the mustard as bad as it was, was only on half of the sandwich, and the bread was soggy by the time i had the chance to eat it. It was a poor experience which I hope to never relive, next time I feel like irish fare, I'm going to check out Coopers. Had the waitress not been so painfully difficult and rude to deal with, i might consider going again at dinner. But really, give anyplace a second shot. Yeah in a perfect world, they would have their a-game every day. But if you got and it sucks twice in a row? That's a poor business and management situation. Unhappy workers simply don't make great restaurants, they can be ok but I'm unimpressed and never going back. If you eat here for some reason, I hope you have a better experience. Just read how inconsistent the ratings are, in the restaurant business, if you are not consistent, you...
Read moreFood was alright, service was absolutely garbage. My boyfriend and I ate here last night, as the last time I came I thought this place was great. We ordered our drinks, after waiting awhile for the server. The waitress told us that the bar was backed up, no biggie. Ordered our appetizer, pub pretzels (which were fantastic) and a Prime Sandwich and Reuben. Got our pretzels, and shortly after got our food. Still had not gotten drinks yet. My prime rib stated it came with Au Jus on the menu, which I did not receive. I asked the waitress about it and she states that she “didn’t think it comes with it”. Okay? Started to eat and FINALLY got our drinks after 40 minutes. My sandwich was dry, the reuben was alright. Waitress came by again to see how everything was, and I stated again that I swore the menu said it came with Au Jus. The waitress this time decided to ask, and shortly after came out with the Au Jus. Made the sandwich taste a whole lot better. My Titos mule I ordered was garbage, so after waiting for 40 minutes for my drink it was just an absolute waste. To sum it up, drinks took way too long, the server was not knowledgeable and was not very attentive, and the food besides the appetizer was subpar. I don’t think we will be back unfortunately, as my first experience was...
