When I review a Mexican casual food place, I don't set the impossibly high standard that it tastes like my Mexican abuelita's cooking, but I do keep an eye out for a few things: good seasoning, good sides (e.g. are the beans and rice place fillers, or actually tasty, are the salsas and toppings like lettuce, avocado, etc. generous and fresh looking), and is there more than just white people's meat preferences on offer (more than shredded chicken or pork and beef silrloin).
Pineda Tacos wins on basically all these fronts. Even at the uber-suburban location of Plymouth, there are still a range of seasoning preparations for the meats - even if there are none of the more culturally specific options like beef tongue still on the menu (sadly removed from lack of interest at some point).
The "Plate/Platillo" is a good bet - you get two different portions of meat (I got the "chicken with green salsa" and carne asada) and it comes with rice, beans, toppings and 5 tortillas on the side. Despite being incredibly hangry by the time I ate, I left with enough for another small lunch. The guac is great, though a little oniony. The burrito is delicious, despite being a little lean on the toppings thst aren't beans/meat/rice. My least favorite part was that the pico de gallo salsa had an added spice in it (an extra chile type?) that masked its fresh, basic flavor. Maybe this is a regional thing I've just never encountered, but I didn't love it. Overall, though, a super solid and authetic casual Mexican place in the suburbs, and I will...
Read moredon't get me wrong i like this place in theory, it's close to me and the people that work here are nice, service is quick and the place is clean. the salsa is generally pretty good too.
unfortunately the quality of the actual food is what's lead me to write this review. i've ordered here about 7 times over the past year, and each time the food hovers between not very good, acceptable and one time it was very good.
i get the same thing everytime, #1 burrito, this last time (about 11am) the burrito was visibly soggy and had a weird plastic smell, i don't know if there were some residual cleaner left in the pots but it tasted off. i've worked in food service for the past 10 years. while the meat is generally pretty good, the rice and lettuce and tomatoes are usually subpar quality and/or not rinsed and drained properly, leading to soggy burrito. rice is almost always overcooked.
i've given Pineda a shot all these times because i would be thrilled to have a close to home taco joint, a go to for lazy nights, but Pineda lacks the quality of a real good mexican food joint. the kind that i'd recomend to others.
their horchata is pretty good so...

“Plate of Meat — Combo 11” featuring Mexican Style Steak 🥩 and Mexican Sausage with Refried Beans, Lettuce 🥬 Guacamole 🥑 Rice, and un poco Pico de Gallo 🍅
A trip over the border to visit flavortown! Okay it was just Highway 55 😂
This little place is tucked away in a small shopping center, but don’t let it’s subtle status fool ya! They’ve got burritos, tamales, enchiladas, tacos, and 10+ meat options to choose from. You won’t want to miss their condiments either; several different sauces and salsas are offered to fit every spice and flavor preference 👌
In this dish, seriously savory notes from the steak are tamed by the delicious texture of peppers and onions, complimented by your classic rice and refried beans. But that Mexican sausage… holy buckets is that a knee-buckler! 😆🤤 lettuce, guac, and salsa gave a necessary fresh finish
Pineda packs a punch at a fair price. It’s no chain, just a little place, but they’ve got something for everyone 👏 Thanks to Steve for givin’ this...
