I recently stopped by Alary’s in downtown St. Paul on a Chicago Bears game day, and the energy in the place was absolutely electric! As a Bears bar here in Minnesota, it’s a great spot to catch the game with other fans—it felt like a mini Chicago right in the heart of St. Paul.
I tried a few things off their menu, starting with the Ketel One Blueberry Mule, which was refreshing and tasty—a perfect drink for unwinding.
For food, I had the Brisket & Smoked Queso Sandwich, which was hands-down my favorite. The brisket was tender and flavorful, and their sauces took it to another level. Speaking of sauces, I also tried their Smoked Wings, paired with a variety of their house-made options: Mississippi Comeback, Strawberry Jalapeño, Jerk BBQ, and Petey’s BBQ Championship. Each sauce had its own unique flair, but the Strawberry Jalapeño stood out for its sweet and spicy twist.
I heard they make a killer banana pudding, so that’s definitely on my list for next time! The ambiance of Alary’s is another highlight—you can feel the history in the space, which gives it a charming and authentic vibe.
The service was also top-notch. The staff were attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed, even on a busy game day, which really added to the experience.
One thing that makes Alary’s stand out is the convenience they offer. They provide validated evening and weekend parking in the ramp next door, and even run shuttles to and from all major events in Saint Paul, including Wild games, Saints games, concerts, and downtown events. You can park for free and ride with them, which is such a game-changer.
If you’re into trivia, don’t miss their Bar Trivia, which isn’t just limited to evenings. It’s a great way to enjoy some good food and drinks while testing your knowledge any time of day!
Whether you’re here for the food, drinks, or the lively atmosphere, Alary’s is definitely worth a visit, especially on game day. I’ll be back soon to try that...
Read moreWe like Alary's and it is our go to place downtown Saint Paul when some other bar closes while we aren't ready to go home yet. Alary's serves drinks until 2 am every day. The drinks are strong enough and when we don't feel like hard liquor there is a nice selection of beers. They serve food until evening and the menu consists of typical bar fare. There are pool tables, video games, and darts. The dart boards are not online but there is plenty of room to shoot. The ATM only allows withdrawals of $100 at a time and there is a $4 fee each time so if you plan on spending cash on pull tabs or something you have to make sure you bring enough with or else you will wince every time you make a withdrawal. At least I do. I hate ATM fees. They have a big outdoor area where smoking is allowed if that is your thing. Also free popcorn is always a plus in my book. They will make you pizza late at night. It is not Heggies pizza though which we think is better. One last thing... Alary's is a Chicago Bears bar. As a die hard Vikings fan I felt a little awkward at first hanging out at a bar with such a prominent Bears motif going on. I made it a point to wear my Vikings gear whenever I would go there. Nobody ever gave me a hard time and now I hardly notice the Bears...
Read moreI’ve been meaning to try this spot for over a year now, and finally had the chance to. I ordered the two meat platter so I can try a couple of things, and it was good for the most part.
The bad: the ribs, coleslaw, mac and cheese. These ribs were some of the worst I’ve ever eaten at a bbq establishment, easily worse than a low tier chain like famous Dave’s. There was no smoke ring, no smoke flavor, and I make better ones in the oven. Do not order. The slaw was pretty tasteless and the mac and cheese was a miss all around. Avoid these sides. Baker’s ribs, animales, and Black Market blow their ribs out of the water
The good: brisket, Texas toast, fries, bbq sauce, service. The brisket was fatty, tasty, and they gave a good portion. The fries were solid, and the bbq sauce options were plentiful and all four we got were great. The Texas toast had a nice crunch and tasted delicious
The banana cream pie was pretty good, very thin but if that’s what you like then you’d love this. Our server said he’d only been there for a month or two, but he was very genuine and one of the best servers I’ve had in recent memory
I’ll certainly be back, but I highly highly recommend staying away from the ribs and...
