We stopped here before going to enjoying the holiday glow lights at the CHS field. It was a cool night, with lots of snow. We found a table and waited about 10-15 minutes before offered a drink and menu. I’m guessing like most places, they were short staffed right now. The servers were all busy running around. It’s a good sized bar with multiple TV’s across the walls like most bars. Our drinks were good. However, one of the people in our party didn’t get a cocktail- just ordered a diet soda. She is a diabetic and can’t have regular soda. She was however served a regular soda. We didn’t know it at the time. She also ordered the salad with oil/vinegar dressing. So she had nothing with any sugar in it, so she thought. Half way through the meal, she got ill from the sugar in the soda. Like very ill. So much so, she had to get an Uber home and couldn’t attend the glow lights with us. She controls her sugars with insulin and diet. She didn’t have insulin with her, which would be fine, as long as she doesn’t have any sugar. Getting the soda WITH sugar, made her need the insulin NOW- immediately and of course she was 34 miles from home.
It made me sad, that they didn’t really even care that the drink was wrong. When they refilled, they asked “diet?”. So it’s not that they didn’t KNOW, who ever hooked it up, added the wrong drink to the fountain or the server just grabbed whichever was easier.
We will never know, but it’s sad that it caused my friend to get so sick and miss the evening out we planned as a group. This was a holiday outing for the group of us. It honestly ruined the night. We were all worried as she went home alone. Because of this, I can’t recommend the bar. The food was prepared as we ordered and came faster than we expected after waiting so long for our first drinks. Staff definitely were running. They all seemed unhappy, which maybe they were….? The location is great. Menu has something for everyone. The person who got the chicken strips, thought they tasted burnt/ over cooked. Otherwise, food was good, hot, and...
Read moreI only tried two appetizer items on the menu. My friend got a salad and she thought it was good. She ordered deep fried pickles, I'll warn you, they are extremely hot. So be careful with your first couple bite's. I didn't really care for them, though I didn't think I would. I was super excited to try the fried Mac & Cheese and found it to be insanely spicy. My first thought was they'd used pepper jack cheese to make it. So I didn't care for the flavor and after eating a few, I discovered there were jalapenos mixed into the Mac & Cheese before they deep fried fried it and that's what made it really spicy. So unless you enjoy spicy food, you aren't gonna like the the fried Mac &Cheese. Not certain if you can request it without the jalapenos.
There was a table with local police dressed up in there work attire. I can't say if it's a usual spot for police to hang out. As It was only my first time being there. The crowd seem to be more upscale and the music was playing newer music KWB type music. When you get there to open up the door, you find that it's actually locked and they will see you and then buzz the door or something so that it opens. Which I guess is probably kind of a nice safety feature located in downtown St Paul. You don't have the worries about people just coming in off the streets and causing trouble.
I probably wouldn't go there again, but I probably wouldn't have chosen to go there to begin with. My friend was paying and picked the place, having looked at the menu online and she liked her food. So, if you think you'll like the food, you'll...
Read moreThis place absolutely lives up to its high ratings! My wife and I stopped by on a Sunday, and the atmosphere was great—plenty of TVs, a welcoming crowd of locals, and just a good, laid-back vibe. We kicked things off with the mac and cheese bites, and wow, they were delicious. Made fresh in-house with pepper jack cheese, they had the perfect amount of crispy goodness on the outside and melty, cheesy flavor inside. The ranch and spicy ketchup on the side were a great touch. Definitely worth ordering! I had seen a lot of reviews raving about the pot roast, so I had to give it a try. It did not disappoint! The meat was tender and flavorful, served with green beans, carrots, and a generous helping of garlic mashed potatoes—pure comfort food done right. We also split the Danger Dog, which was a deep-fried beef hot dog wrapped in bacon and topped with caramelized onions. Super tasty! We upgraded to the Cajun-seasoned tots, and that was a great call—the seasoning really elevated them, and they were perfectly crispy. My wife went for the steak sandwich and absolutely loved it. They don’t skimp on the steak, and it was cooked just right. She swapped the chips for a side salad, which had a great mix of greens and even some beets, which she enjoyed. The service was top-notch, too. Our waitress was attentive without hovering and gave us some great recommendations. Overall, this was an awesome experience—if I could give it 11/10, I would....
