I really debated whether or not to leave this review. We go to Pizza Luce a lot and I’ve always loved the food. Never had an issue until today. But when I found a sharp piece of plastic baked into my pizza—under the cheese—I couldn’t just let it slide. I brought it back calmly and discreetly, hoping it would be taken seriously. They offered to remake the pizza and give me a dessert, which might be fine for a small mistake—but not for something that could’ve seriously hurt someone. When I asked for a refund instead, the manager initially offered only half, which honestly stunned me. He did end up refunding the full amount after I reacted, but it shouldn’t have taken that. What bothered me most wasn’t just the plastic—it was the lack of urgency or concern. This wasn’t a simple wrong order kind of scenario. There was a shard of plastic that could’ve caused serious injury. Huge liability for a business. There was no sign they were looking into how it happened or whether other food might be affected. I didn’t make a scene at the time out of respect, but I do think this needs to be addressed publicly. Mistakes happen—but how they’re handled matters, especially when safety is involved.

I am sad that it has come to the point that I had to edit my rating and be openly critical of a location and chain that I have enjoyed so much in the past. This location in particular (and happens to be my delivery location) has gone completely off the rails it seems. There is an error on nearly every order and no quality control. Tonight was the last straw. The veggieballs were pellet sized, not sure it was Vegan cheese, salads were a mess and found pieces of bacon in them with the very stingy portion of Vegan bacon we added and paid extra for. Also, the drivers never follow delivery instructions any more. They make you come down and meet them at the door like it is still high risk Covid times, even when you tip 25% or more. How hard are a couple of salads and an appetizer to execute and deliver...? Either we are getting retaliated against for the issues we have had to call in previously, there is no training, the employees just take no pride in their work any longer, or all of the above. My suggestion, if you're wanting quality you can now cross this place off your list for the time being.

Edited/update #2 (2 star): While we had received an email stating that we would receive a refund for our pizza purchase, we never received one and there was no follow up. I retract my “thank you” to the PL team. Edited/updated (3 star): While our below experience was an unfortunate one, we reached out to the restaurant via the "Contact Us" tab on their website. I received a reply the next morning offering a refund and an apology. The customer service was spot on and very prompt, which really helps us as customers feel better about our poor experience. Thanks PL team! Original post (2 stars): Ordered delivery and had a very disappointing experience. Our "loaded" baked potato pizza resembled a cheddar cheese pizza with some tomatoes and broccoli scattered very lightly on top. There was so much cheddar we had to scrape some off. For paying a bit more and supporting what we used to think was a great local establishment, we expected something more than this disappointing pie. See pictures for comparison of what they advertise and what we recieved.

So incredibly disappointed with the St. Paul Pizza Luce. My family and I are vegan and we frequent this location a lot due to their many vegan options and location. On multiple multiple occasions our order is messed up. Honestly, its more incorrect than correct majority of the time. I can count the number of times our order has been correct on one hand, easily. Orders are constantly made NOT vegan, even when requested. Dairy based cheese is added to our hoagies and or pizzas, real chicken meat has been added to our veggie pizza before, real bacon on a vegan bacon salad has been added 3 times in the last 2 weeks. One time they didn’t even take the skin off the avocado. This last order, 2 vegan BLT salads had real bacon (both didn’t have croutons as well) and 1 vegan hoagie had dairy cheese on it. Which my daughter started to eat until she said it tasted funny, spit it out, and realized it was real cheese. She hasn’t had dairy in 5 years so we are hoping she doesn’t end up with a major stomach ache. It’s super lazy and inconsiderate. We dont’t want animal products in our house, period. Plus, we hate wasting food. Every time we order it’s always something. We spend good money there and let’s be honest, they aren’t cheap. If you are going to have an option to ad Xxtra ingredients on any item, then the order should reflect that since it is expensive to add it. Doesn’t seem like they care and overcharge for less ingredients when asking and paying for more. The manager said she would replace our order today with everything, as most managers do when we call and complain. Just sucks waiting 45-1hr for food, then having to remake it, and normally they don’t rush it so we have to wait another 45-1hr to receive the original order. Even when they remade it this time I still needed up with mock duck on my vegan chicken and vegan bacon sandwich and my sons sandwich still had banana peppers even though we requested none. We paid for xxtra tomatoes on our salad and ended up with a regular order. You would think that after them having to remake the order they would get it right. We are very grateful that we don’t actually have a dairy allergy in the house since the ambulance would of had to be called multiple times. Incredibly frustrated and angry that this keeps happening and I’m not even sure if we will order from here again. Don’t have vegan options and pride yourself on having them and then completely disregard and disrespect your own policy. The lack of laziness, inconsideration, and respect your cooks have could and will make some people very sick and could potentially kill someone due to severe allergies. They need to slow down and managers should be checking all to go orders before someone actually ends up getting incredibly sick. If I could give 0 stars, I would. Not happy and won’t be returning...

I am so utterly disappointed in this location. I've been a LONG time customer of pizza luces all over Minnesota. I LOVE Lucé and am quick to recommend it to someone looking for a good place for pizza or pasta. Unfortunately for me, I've been reduced to only being able to get hoagies at Lucé.

Generally, I am the furthest from picky you could meet and rarely if ever asked for substitutions or removing items. Two years ago, I got covid and was one of the lucky ones to get, not the loss of, but distortion of taste/smell. Now, everything I once loved, tastes absolutely repulsive to me, to the point I've gotten sick from something that used to be a favorite. This has literally caused me to rapidly lose weight and have VERY few things I CAN eat, leading to me only eating maybe once a day.

The reason for the back story, not once or twice but numerous times now, my order has been ignored. Things I specifically asked to be taken off left on and now tonight, an entirely different thing than I ordered and what's more, when I went in to pay since I ordered on the phone, the man at the to go counter said "oh the pesto turkey" which was not what I ordered. I corrected him and said that I just ordered the turkey his response was that I had just taken everything off... um okay I guess. I know sometimes it's easier to ring something else when there are alot of subs so I didn't really think anything of it. Nope, home all the way to apple valley(I work in st.paul thus why I stop there frequently) only to notice it tasted off, look and see it IS indeed the pesto turkey and can't eat it.

I keep trying to continue to go because the times my order is actually correct, it is absolutely amazing and I get something in my stomach, that actually tastes good. But I can't continue to have something I paid for, more often than not, be incorrect. Please speak to your staff, my situation is unique but generally speaking, if someone's asking for something to be removed, it is often for an allergy reason. Something that could ultimately make someone incredibly sick or god forbid, die. I worked for years and years in restaurants, I understand mistakes happen but this is past the point...

So here's the thing, it's a great spot, and if you dine in, the food is pretty good. They hand-pour cherry Coke on request and take pride in their beer offerings, too. Twin Cities natives LOVE them their local Pizza Luce.

BUT - and it's a BIG but (sans Sir Mix-a-Lot) - I got nasty food poisoning from their chicken wings last year, and haven't been able to look at chicken wings since. They also have a problem remembering to add extra cheese on their pizza when you order online. Has happened several times when I've ordered delivery as well as pick-up. Both of these issues are specific to the Roseville location.

On the other hand, Katie at the Selby location in St Paul is wonderful if you're lucky enough to be in her service. I was there last week with a VERY diverse group of people - there were about 10 of us - and she was great. She was even juggling a late Friday night when the carbonation ran out at the bar, so no carbonated drinks. They also ran out of their summer special pizza (Taco Supreme), and the kitchen dropped one of our orders. Katie was pleasant, kind, generous, on top of it. She handled her business, as we say in NYC, amidst the chaos. Kudos to you, Katie. I hope you -and your corporate boss - see this review, because you're the reason I will continue to recommend Pizza Luce despite clear ops issues.

The vegan meatballs are pretty good, and even have a fire-seared flavor to them that's unexpected in vegan products.

I happen to be an omnivore, and also tried the meat meatballs, which are also quite good - though I don't recommend mixing and matching.

Generally, the pizzas are super yum, but have a thin, crispy crust, fyi. Also important: they have a pretty good gluten-free selection, including the pizzas.

I recommend asking about spiciness if you have sensitivity to burning foods, though. Not everything with "kick" is labeled on the menu.

So, after all of that, I still go. I still recommend them. Just know that there may be a learning curve, so I also recommend you go with locals the first few times if you're a traveler or a...
