I love baseball. I enjoy museums. Naturally, I was excited to visit the COBM while attending a Saints game at CHS Field.
A staff member welcomed me at the door (and even opened it for me). Once inside, I was surrounded by bats, uniforms, intricately decorated baseballs, photos, placards, videos, and displays on the history of baseball in Minnesota's capital city.
I liked the focus on the rivalry between the Minneapolis Millers and old St. Paul Saints; that they were New York Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers affiliates, respectively, only furthered the competition, as the players might someday battle upon call-up in the Big Apple.
The circa-1993 Saints' role in reestablishing independent baseball in the U.S. and Canada was vital. It is interesting to reflect, as three formerly independent teams (St. Paul, Sugar Land, and Somerset) were welcomed into the fold of affiliated baseball in 2021, how that role led to proving several cities were capable of hosting and supporting baseball.
