This is a unique brewery unlike anything you'll find in the twin cities metro area. First, this brewery is chalk full of history. While this location is not the original brewery (which burnt down in the 50s), the building is about 110 years old, and is decorated in a way that does justice to the historic nature of the building.
Second, the brewery really is more known for its imported European beer, including about ten that are on tap. The brewery does offer three of its own brews, which again, are historic in nature.
Third, the bartender is friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable about the beers offered. Many of the beers are special releases and may be difficult, if not nearly impossible, to find in the USA.
Prices are a touch on the high side, but after paying the tab, you'll still feel like you received decent value.
The brewery does offer food, which is nice. There are multiple options (more than most breweries).
The brewery offers flights (4 ounce pours). Only the beers on tap are eligible, and due to the extensive beer menu, you will assuredly find some beers you wish you could taste instead of buying a pricy bottle.
There really are only three downsides to this brewery. First, the parking isn't great (on street parking only). Second, the Yoerg beer really isn't that good. Having only three beers is limiting, and the styles are not creative. Instead, they are definitely outdated (think beer designed for 150 years ago). Third, they charge two and a half percent credit card fee (with a tiny note on one page of the menu, but otherwise without disclosure until you receive your bill). I understand the cost of doing business is going up, but I really find this in bad taste as most people are paying by credit...
Read moreYou know that experience of stumbling upon a hidden gem for food and drinks and you are already planning when you can return and bring friends? That's how I felt in the first 10 minutes of being here at Yoerg's. The staff were all smiles and friendly/welcoming plus the cozy atmosphere of chairs, tables, beer decorations, Belgian decor, it was a great place to chill out. The menu is a bit overwhelming but in a fun way.
Make sure you are not in a rush, spend some time sipping your beverage, and reading the menu and seeing the pages and pages of choices. And read the descriptions, there is a lot to learn. And that's just the menu, then there is a beer Bible book!
They have a Lambic section of the beer menu, a Monastery section, Cider section, and so much more. They have a section for wine too.
The food menu has several types of charcuterie and also different varieties of pretzel (regular with salt, parmesan, cinnamon, and hard pretzels) with authentic German mustard. Then there are Wurst sandwiches and other German food varieties. And then you turn the page.... and there's so much more under seafood. And there are pizzas. Pickled eggs. 7 types of peanuts! Sauerkraut. Even European non alcoholic beverages. Then you turn the page and there are special cheesecakes. I could just move in here and never leave.
I had the German pretzel with mustard and it was the perfect blend of soft yet crispy outside with tasty mustard and not too much salt. I also had the black forest ham plate. I did a flight of Belgian beers and then selected one Belgian triple bottle. All were superb.
I can't wait to return!
Nov 2023: still incredible. The charcuterie...
Read moreMy friends and I recently dined at this restaurant and had quite a mixed experience. On a positive note, we were promptly seated and the staff was eager to take our drink and food orders as soon as we were ready. We appreciated their attentiveness during this initial stage of the meal. The food itself was decent for the price, which is always a plus. I tried the pretzel and cheese brat, which was quite enjoyable. The portions were reasonable, and I believe most people would leave satisfied with their meal. However, there were a few areas that could use improvement. After placing our orders, we had to wait over an hour for the first item to arrive, which was a bit disappointing. To make matters worse, our waitress didn’t inform us of the long wait time until just before the dish arrived. It would have been nice to have been given a heads-up earlier, so we could have managed our expectations better. We were informed that the kitchen was small and everyone had ordered at once, which caused the delay. While this may be an understandable reason, we hope the restaurant can find ways to improve the efficiency of the kitchen to prevent such long wait times in the future. Maybe staggering seating times or expanding the kitchen area could help alleviate this issue. In conclusion, the food was enjoyable and well-priced, but the long wait time dampened our experience. We understand that busy times can be challenging, but better communication and a few adjustments could make all the difference. We hope that the restaurant takes this constructive criticism on board, and we'll be willing to give it another try in the future to see the...
