I write many glowing reviews when I truly enjoy a local restaurant. This will not be among those. Eating at Sila Thai tonight was, hands down, the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. My boyfriend and I were accused of damaging property by a waitress, who I expect was looking for money. I was appalled at the accusation, as was the couple eating next to us, and the police officer that was called. In the end, the waitress told the officer 3 different, conflicting stories, presented no evidence of damage, had no witnesses and continued to make up news stories about what happened every time the previous story was proven to be false. Thank goodness for the kind, level headed officer of the SPPD. He kept the peace and assured us that we had done nothing wrong and thanked us for talking with him. Obviously, we will never return, after being harassed and having our time (and the time of SPPD) wasted.
Aside from this bizarre experience, the service was poor (order was incorrect and the wait time was unreasonable, as we were 1 of 2 couples in the entire restaurant). In the past, I felt the food was very good. Not any more. Both meals were mediocre, at best.
I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau soon to report the harassment. If you had a similar experience, please share this, as I believe this waitress should, at the very...
Read moreThis was the worst experience we had for a long time. We wanted something curry, we saw the rate is 4.5, so we said ok, let's give it a try. We walked in with only one guest there. They play awful music. Swift hut not sing by her. They didnt give us any utensil and never remembered to give us any napkin. The calamari was good so I was happy, but then the nightmare started. Their chef specials are literally joke and here is why. We ordered number 1, orange plum sauce duck, it was literally plus sauce and you dump a duck leg in there, 0 effort. It was over over sweet, my husband said the chef or the people in that restaurant definitely never tried it, it's unbearable. Then the worst worst part came, when my Seafood paradise arrived, I smelled the Japanese curry cube smell. I was not willing to believe a 4.5 star Thai restaurant will be this cheap, so I tasted it, I invited my husband to taste it. If anyone thinks I'm joking, please try this Seafood paradise. It is literally the supermarket Japanese curry cube! There are so many Thai restaurants in St Pete, sila Thai is definitely the worst. If you must eat here, the traditional Thai food menu is the only one worth a look, but they still don't do it well. I highly recommend everyone don't waste time...
Read moreLunch specials ($9.99 - $13.99) and come with a spring roll and cup of soup. I was looking for something light, perhaps just the spring roll and cup of soup, and maybe a chicken satay appetizer ($6.99).
Unbelievably, the spring roll is $5.99, and the soup, another $5.99 for a total of $11.98! Add the cost of the chicken satay to arrive at $18.97. The cost exceed the entire lunch special!
Was the restaurant willing to make an adjustment to a more reasonable price in light of the chicken satay nearly equaling the price of a lunch special, especially since there were others in our party buying lunch? Nope. Pay the whole $12 for the spring roll and cup of soup or buy the lunch special and throw it out. ( I've had their sushi and lunch specials and they are mediocre at best).
If I had been the one to choose the venue, I would have chose differently.
This place is not what I would consider customer friendly. I'd rather go somewhere where my business is...
