We made two visits to Hook’d. The 1st was brunch on a Monday. When I called to ask if they were open the guy who answered the phone said “yea.” Then I asked if they were serving brunch - again a monotone “yea.” Then I asked if we needed reservations and he said “no, we aren’t busy at all.” So we went and the breakfast food was pretty decent, but the guy serving us, the same guy who I spoke to on the phone, was just not a good server at all. He couldn’t have been less interested in providing anything but then bare minimum of taking our order and dropping food off. I had to get up and ask for ketchup from him as he sat behind the bar not paying any attention to us. He said it’s in the box on your table. No, it wasn’t. I had to go take it from the next table over. He then came over and told me that if I “stand up I must put my mask on even though it seems silly since we are outdoors.” I was also 15 feet from the only other table there and only had to stand up and ask for something because he just dropped our food and walked off.
We should have just taken the cue that service here was horrible, at best, possibly discriminatory, at worst. But we decided to give it another try because everyone has off days, so we came back a few days later to try dinner. As we stood at the door waiting for someone to come seat us, we saw a girl sitting in a booth inside. She looked at us standing there and kept talking to the guy she was speaking with (co-worker) and looked away from us. Then after about 2 minutes she finally got up and came over to get us a seat. I was hoping she wasn’t the greeter, but she was and it was not a very welcoming way to arrive somewhere to eat when you are ignored.
The server this time (different guy) was very polite and friendly, asked and answered questions and showed he was appreciative we were there by thanking us several times for coming to dinner. Sadly the food was not good at all. I didn’t have the heart to tell him that the crab cake sandwich was totally mushy like baby food and that the fries were completely inedible. They had been way over cooked and tasted of very old fish frying oil. They were literally black/brown on many fries. I covered my plate with a napkin to attempt to make it look like I ate more food than I did when he came to ask about the food because he had been proud of the crab sandwich being Maryland style. When he asked, I simply said “The taste was definitely Maryland style” but I didn’t mention the cooking was so off with it being pure mush, making it terrible. Along with the fries came some sort of tomato “jam” or attempt at a homemade ketchup. It was completely tasteless and I set it aside to try ketchup that was actually in our table box this time, but nothing could make the fries edible.
It was no wonder to me that both times we were there it was almost empty while everywhere else was busy.
Then on Sunday we were taking a day trip to a nearby local luxury resort. The directions said to go to dock “D.” As we walked down the docks in order we reached “C” and then came to the entrance hallway of Hook’d. It was obvious that “D” was right on the other side of Hook’d. It was 10:30 on Sunday morning and the place was not very busy. As with all the other restaurants in the open air plazas surrounding the area we walked through the center walkway of Hook’d not thinking anything of it. As we got to the end to turn to the dock two people both came fast towards us saying loudly that we “can’t cut through there next time” and that “this isn’t a shopping mall for everyone to walk through.” The person saying that was the manager of the restaurant. I can understand if they think this is a problem for them but talking rudely to people walking through isn’t the solution and isn’t going to help their new business. She then told the dock guys from the boat that she plans to put some plants or a divider for people to see they can’t go through, proving it’s unclear and she shouldn’t talk to people that way. As locals, we won’t be spending...

Read moreWell I've been in St Thomas about a week and by far this place was the most disappointing for lunch.
We were seated near an umbrella in direct sun and it's 87 degrees, but not under one. There was no other table in the way blocking it immediately the manager came by and started slamming another table down and chairs and then after she set that up then moved it off again. Well there's no ships in town till Wednesday and it's a Saturday so maybe business isn't good and anybody can have a bad day so I sluffed it off.
We ordered the jerk chicken wing appetizer and later the waiter came back and took our lunch order which was two cheeseburgers.
The cheeseburgers came out what's the different server and they were good but they come with fries and they were probably 20 french fries on each plate. We let the server know that delivered our burgers she delivered that are appetizer never came out. She apologized and promptly brought Jerk chicken appetizer.
The Jerk Chicken wings appetizer have the consistency of the plate so we sent it back. It promptly came out again but it wasn't much better.
Although of the restaurant wasn't that busy, our initial server cleared my plate before I was done eating and probably brought us the bill in an effort to get the table so more people could sit even though the restaurant was half empty.
Needless to say I was...
