We chatted with a couple at the pizza spot we got food from the night before. They raved about XO Bistro, especially the lamb chops, so we had to give it a try!
We were seated immediately and drink orders were taken. The strawberry vodka cocktail with Himalayan Salt rim was perfect. Everything went down hill when our meal was served.
We began seeing fruit flies on the table. I smashed two of them and figured they were rogue bugs that got into the restaurant. I couldn't have been more wrong. Bugs were crawling throughout my friend's Thai salad. I was able to keep the bugs off my lamb chops while he sought the attention of the server.
Upon request, she moved us to another table and offered to have the kitchen prepare a new Thai salad with chicken. She shared that the fruit flies are present when the kitchen doesn't take out the garbage. She went on to say that the owner was aware of the fruit fly problem, but hasn't sent anyone yet.
Ok, disappointing, but the new table seemed to be the remedy. My friend is brought a fresh salad as I enjoy my lamb chop dinner. He's about halfway through his salad when a fruit fly lands on his plate and another is on an obstacle course through the pieces of lettuce. He threw in the towel (napkin).
This problem was again brought to the attention of our server. She smiled and told us there was nothing she could do about the fruit flies and left the bill. I wonder if we had issues at the dining table if the kitchen also is having the fruit fly issue. Truly let down by XO Bistro.
2/5 because the lamb chops were fantastic and the cocktail hit the spot. However, had his 2nd salad arrived before I finished the lamb chops, I wouldn't have been able to finish my meal either. Most certainly was not the experience I...
Read moreMy wife and I walked in and where immediately greeted with a scoul and impatience from the bartender who was our server despite us being very polite. The lighting was dim and dreary and not only did all the staff seem miserable but so did all the patrons. Overheard conversations where all negative, people complaining about not just the service and food but life in general. We ordered linguini with a garlic aliol and scallops ($38 for 3 scallops). Linguini was barely warm and the garlic was completely raw rather than being lightly cooked in the oil as one makes an aliol (this was my wife's meal and she is Sicilian so she knows aliol). My overpriced scallops where very fishy and overcooked to the point where they where like a bundle of rubber bands rather than tender and sweet as they should be and the sweet corn polenta they where bedded on was overseasoned with thyme to the point where that's all you could taste. We took a few bites and stopped eating it. We didn't want to be rude so we waited for the bartender to ask us if everything was OK but instead she ubruptly asked if we where finished and if we wanted the check. Didn't even question our having barely touched our meals even after at this point being a bit ubrupt ourselves with our reply of NO when asked if we would like a box to go. As a restaurant owner myself I truly believe our meals where prepared with nothing more than a microwave and a toaster oven. Don't eat here there are plenty of delicious restaurants on St. Thomas. We also asked the opinions of a few locals afterwards and they agreed they have fallen off the edge of quality with both service and food over the past few years. I am suprised they...
Read moreWe came in for dinner Monday at 8. We entered the restaurant and sit at the hostess station for assault at five minutes. The bar was very crowded and no one acknowledged us until the hostess came out from the back. At least 3 staff saw us and were within speaking distance but said nothing. I was ready to leave at that point. However, the hostess came out of the bag just then, so we decided to give it a shot. There were two seats at the bar, so we took those.
I ordered a Margarita and the boyfriend order an ultra; however, the island was out of ultra, so he drank a corona. We decided just to order a couple of appetizers so that we could visit another restaurant on the island and sample their food.
It took a good solid five minutes before the bartender, who was within touching distance acknowledged us. We play star, drink orders and received them about ten minutes later. At that time, she also took our food order.
We ordered the tomato bruschetta and the Boom boom shrimp. They both came out absolutely delicious. They were perfectly cooked. The shrimp was hot.The bruschetta was fresh, bread was crisp.
Still a little bit disappointed that we were not acknowledged when we came in. Maybe this is just a really laid back place where they you live by the philosophy of...
