We grabbed a great dinner at the Tap & Still in Red Hook after returning from a day trip by ferry to St. John. It’s a perfect place for a totally laid back meal and good cocktails after a day on the beach or on the boat.
Service was quick and pleasant. You place your order for food on a card and list all of your preferences for toppings and side, then return it to the server. Our food came out real fast, although we got there around 5:30 pm and it wasn’t crowded.
Their cocktails were great. They make a great Painkiller…highly recommended. And pricing was reasonable when compared to other spots on the island.
Its located right next to the water, and the whole place is open air, so it has a great island vibe. The music choice was interesting…not quite what I was expecting (haven’t heard the Scorpions in a while!), but it was all good. Just know this is a nice bar/restaurant and not fine dining. We loved that you can walk up and dine in your bathing suits and just chill.
The food was the highlight. Loved that they serve it in a brown paper bag and wrapped in foil with no dishes, take out style. The fries, burgers and chicken sandwiches that we ordered were outstanding. Nothing fancy, but perfectly cooked and served. They hit the spot.
Parking seems a bit limited in the area. We tried the garage next door without any luck, then got lucky and landed a spot behind the restaurant on the water (there are only about 10-15 parking spots back there). But there is also a paid lot nearby (I think it was a few bucks an hour).
So if you want a laid back, chill spot for dinner or lunch, and love burgers, fried chicken, hot dogs, wings and fries, you’ll love it here. I would totally come back next time we visit St. Thomas...
Read moreTLDR: Hostile energy & service so we didn’t even stay to eat, went to another restaurant instead. I walked into this place with a girlfriend of mine. I was wearing a bikini top and a skort as it was so hot and humid on the island and was dress coded as soon as I entered this place which is fine. Their establishment, their rules. I covered up with a scarf and asked to use a bathroom. I was met with hostility again from one of the bartenders who couldn’t give me clear direction as to where the bathroom was. One of the other bartenders stepped in when I asked for clarification on where the bathroom was. On my way to the bathroom, I decided against going because it was in a shed, a far walk from the bar, and you needed a key to get in. Too much hassle. Came back and sat down and within a minute of sitting, another condescending comment from one of the bartenders asking if we were gonna order anything or just sit there on our phones. At that point, there was no way I was going to spend my money at this place so we left and went to eat and get drinks at the Easterly instead where I was not dress coded with the same outfit on btw. This was the only place on the island where we were met with weird hostile energy and it’s not easily...
Read moreYou will have to babysit in order to get any service. Our waiter never checked on our table, so anytime we wanted something, we had to go get him. Waited 20 minutes for water and sodas, finally asked for them, and the soda tasted bad. The kitchen messed up my burger, so I waited for a "how is everything tasting" and instead had to get up and go tell someone. After eating, we waited probably 30 min for funnel cake. As we waited, a female waitress passed by and asked us how we were doing, I told her we were waiting on the funnel cake, she said she would go check on it for us. 20 minutes later, nothing. We had to get up and grab our waiter again, at which point he said he would put in our funnel cake. So the whole time, nobody was working on it for us. I think if we would have just gotten up and left without paying, nobody would have ever noticed, seeing as how we had to get up and go ask for the check too. Some of the worst service I've ever had. The Tap & Still was recommended by multiple people too, so overall just a big...
