McCain's Bakery & Cafe — Restaurant in Salado

A less than satisfactory experience. I made advance reservations for a party of 10 and another reservation for a party of 6 with the Manager, for 8:45 am, (after having difficulty with their online reservation system.The online system kept sending texts that they will try again in 15 min intervals. After 3 emails, i then called the restaurant). The Mgr said they would get the tables ready at 8:30am to be ready by 8:45am. My group showed up at 8:32 am and the front cashier knew nothing of our reservations. The Manager appeared and said that they had an issue with people seating themselves and our tables were taken! (Basically they dropped the ball and made excuses with no apologies). We are a clean christian motorcycle group that had a strict schedule and church plans out of town, which got messed up and delayed by their incompetence. We waited over 30 min for the tables, and (1) hr later still had no service. (Note when we got there, we witnessed 4-5 empty tables in the room to the right of entrance, so there was no reason they couldn't seat us. They just dont know how to manage. Once we got seated I had to ask the waitress twice for water for our table and requested a pitcher, of which was never delivered, On the 2nd request she finally brought some mini plastic cups of water for us. No pitcher (which was desperately needed to accommodate such a large party of hot bikers who had been traveling 1 hour on harleys and very thirsty!). I chose this restaurant for our breakfast event after reading great reviews. We rode long distance expecting a nice experience. The food, though good, was no better than any other cafe, the french toast was tasty, the coffee smooth, but the wait was not worth it, an omelet order was messed up, and we had to stand in line to pay out.(totally behind the times with a manual check out process) 🙄. Our reservations alone brought in an average of $20 per person, totaling $320, not incl tips. Needless to say, they lost any future business from my club. The only advice i can give mgnt, is take a trip to Chess Club Cafe in Blanco, Tx watch and learn how a 5-star restaurant runs...

Very disappointing. On a very cold Saturday morning (Jan. 20th), our visit to McCain's Bakery & Cafe en route to San Antonio was especially disheartening, not just because of the outside chill but also due to the unexpectedly cold temperature inside the restaurant. I had anticipated a warm and cozy atmosphere but instead found it uncomfortably cold. We arrived just in time to avoid the Saturday morning crowd, which began to fill the place shortly after we placed our orders. On a positive note, the coffee was quite good, and the gentleman who served us was amiable and attentive. My husband opted for the All American Breakfast and found it to be merely "edible." He noted that the biscuit served with his meal was oddly toasted. My experience, however, was far more disappointing. I chose the Little Breakfast, requesting poached eggs and English muffins. Unfortunately, my meal arrived cold. The muffins were under-toasted, and the bacon was chilly. The eggs, which were supposed to be poached, were undercooked, as evident in the photos. They were so inadequately prepared that I ended up giving them to my husband. Thankfully, he had ordered an extra egg, which I found to be just okay - not hot, but at least edible. Our hopes for a warm, comforting breakfast on a cold morning were dashed by the unsatisfactory meal. Despite the cafe not being busy when our food was prepared, the quality and temperature were well below expectations. Regrettably, I can only offer McCain's Bakery & Cafe a 2-star rating, as the overall experience was far from...

Place was very small! Walked in and just stood there for several minutes before anyone even spoke to us, just to come find out we could’ve just sat ourselves like 5 minutes ago… I order a cheeseburger with extra mustard, I get a burger with absolutely NO mustard… my gf ordered a BLT and got a Bacon sandwich with no Lettuce or Tomato! 🤷🏽‍♂️ they only bring u ONE napkin to use, so I hope u make do with that one! They were also mixing up orders from the other tables around us, bringing them the wrong food, and they also needed napkins ! Seems like they need to tighten up in there! Not really an excuse for forgetting lettuce and tomatoes when the ingredients are IN THE NAME BLT 🥴tried to order fried w my burger and they don’t even have fries… order chips and they apparently only have ONE kind! Lays original! No options ! No sour cream and onion, no Jaleno, no bbq etc. The waitress asks us what sides we want and we’re scouring the menu for sides just to come find out THERE ISN’T A SIDES SECTION on the menu! There’s a very tiny sentence in the middle of the menu that says “chips, baked potato or coke slaw” … that’s it… those are your options.. take it or leave it 🤷🏽‍♂️🥴I think another page added on to the menu would serve them well.
