Hawaiian Time — Restaurant in Salem

Great tasting food. Had the Mauna Loa chicken today, Super Hawaiian style that has great taste. It’s a very flavorful spicy addition to the chicken. I ordered an side of extra Mac and side of rice, both were great and appropriately sized for little cost. My main and only issue is that after eating some of the chicken, I found that it was sitting on a decent size bed of rice. Now I’m not greedy or an unrealistic person (your a for profit business after all) but it seems a bit ingenious to make the chicken look like there is more for you than what is really there to eat. By putting the great flavored chicken on the bed of rice it makes it look like there is more than there truly is. Now I’m happy to pay a little more money to get a full section of the chicken as I think they are under priced already. I was just let done by this (restaurant industry) age old trick to make the plate look bigger. I didn’t need more now highly flavored rice, I already had enough rice with the second order. Had I of known the chicken was on an extra layer of rice I wouldn’t have ordered the second side dish. Please either charge more for the full amount of chicken or let us know that your restaurant has made the conscience decision to maximize profits and will be putting the extra rice on all your orders. I will be coming back as I love the taste and that your food is different than all the pizza and burger and Mexican places out in Salem, I will just know what to expect next...

Just to start off, I do really like Hawaiian Time, but this last time was just not up to their usual standard. I used to go here a couple of years ago, but over the past couple of years, I started going to the West Salem location because of the place I was living. Today, my boyfriend and I decided to go back to this location because we were in the area, and he got me a regular of the Huli Huli Chicken with double mac to go. When we got home and I started eating, I noticed these flat black pieces that had the texture of plastic and one larger piece that I can only assume are burnt pieces of food from the grill. I'd normally let it slide but I'm currently dealing with some health issues and really don't want anything else to cause more problems since I don't actually know what these are and how long they had been on the grill (if there was cross contamination, how old, or if cleaners were used on these pieces prior). I'm not looking for anything out of this other than for the staff to clean the grills better so that this doesn't happen to someone else and get...

I’ve had huli huli chicken in Hawaii, at home and couple other places and there is always something wrong with either the chicken or the rice or the Mac salad. I gave this place a 5 star bcuz not only the chicken was tasty, the rice and Mac salad was cooked to perfection! I normally find the chicken and rice to be good or a combo of Mac and chicken but never 3 combos! The chicken was soft and cooked to perfection. There is enough amount of spices that this chicken was so delicious to bite on. There are other places that chicken is either too salty or not enough salt or too much sauce. I admit I do not like Mac salad but this one, I can eat it all day. The pasta was soft enough, enough creaminess to it, salt and pepper are distributed really well. I mean it was absolutely fantastic! The rice…wow! I’m Asian and rice is important to me and this rice…I need to know where they got it 😂 A MUST place to go!
