This review was based solely on the Tonkotsu ramen. Service from the one waitress was nice. The cooks are all in the back, there’s no bar. The interior is dingy and rundown, just like the lot this building is located in. I ordered the Tonkotsu ramen like I do everywhere else in the world, it was very disappointing. Served with the wrong noodles for Tonkotsu broth, the broth itself was very bland and generic with no umami taste. You can easily tell that no time or effort went into making the broth. Then you have the two very very thinly sliced pieces of Chashu pork which were honestly gross and almost tasted like expired meat. Probably the worst I’ve ever had. No garlic, space, oil, or any other condiments were offered with the ramen. The quality of this ramen was similar to a three dollar bowl I had at a train station in Japan, but perhaps a bit worse and an order of magnitude more expensive. I don’t recommend this place.

The Salt Lake City sub-reddit came to a consensus that Tosh's is the best bowl of ramen in town. We're not drowning in options, but we have quite a few noodle joints. While I'm not sure that Tosh's is heads and shoulders above the rest, it offers a classic bowl of Tonkatsu that feels very vintage. Showa era boomers in Tokyo would find comfort in the relatively mild broth, and the thinner noodle style. Most other ramen-ya are leaning hard into extreme flavors: double thick broth, tons of garlic, and enough salt to turn even heftier diners into living jerky. Tosh's is a softer touch, and simpler, too. Best for less extreme palates, I think, though no slouch even for inveterate slurpers. I'd also note the service is extremely great - prompt attention, great check-ins, and a quick check out. That part also makes Tosh's feel more like a hole in the wall in Japan, rather than a ramen spot in SLC.

The only place for Ramen in down town Salt Lake City, IMHO. Get there early ,as there is always a long wait and limited waiting room space. Which can be a draw back in inclimate weather. They have adequate seating but my Christmas wish is that the owner would purchase the property next door and expand his seating area. Without a doubt, COMPLETELY. WORTH.THE.WAIT! Ramen broth is legit, and done in the traditonal old world Japanese style. Scrumptious! Karai is everything, and I would highly recommend. If you're a true ramen-ista...BYO-gari, nori, and hot chili paste/oil. They finally have togarashi and it's available for the asking. Price is extremely reasonable. Ambiance is clean and bright. Staff is friendly and very accommodating! Parking again, during peak times, can be limited. Off street parking available.

Worst service of all time. My boyfriend and I were so excited to try Tosh’s Ramen since all of our friends had gone there and said it was great. The waiter sat us down at a table by the door and the breeze was cold so I politely asked Michelle, another waitress, to sit by the wall. She cut me off midway and said sure, turning around to her other table. My boyfriend and I were so confused on why her tone was so rude to me. After all we’ve never been there and I hadn’t done anything wrong to her. We brushed it off and just sat down and ordered our food. The food was great and we were having a great time and once our waiter brought the bill over my boyfriend paid and left a tip on there. Right when we were about to leave the waiter came over and said he forgot to put one thing on our bill so I gave him my card to swipe because it was no big deal. When I got the bill back another item was added on that he forgot and didn’t say he was going to add. At this point I was a little annoyed because our bill was messed up twice but I pushed it off and paid anyways. I didn’t put a tip on my receipt because my boyfriend had already put a tip on the other receipt for both of us. I was just paying the extra amount the waiter forgot to put down. So as we got up to leave, the rude and bitter waitress Michelle that cut me off in the beginning came up to our table, slammed both of our receipts on the table turned to me and said, “um is there a reason why you didn’t put a tip on this receipt? We only make $2 an hour here sooooooo.” And before I could say that my boyfriend had already put the tip down and that our waiter just messed up our bill, Michelle cuts me off AGAIN and turns to my boyfriend and complains to him that his tip WASNT BIG ENOUGH. She walked away not giving us a chance to speak and left us both shocked. I didn’t know a waitress could come up to our table and harass us and ask for a bigger tip because she only makes $2. Michelle then continued to walk around the room not giving us eye contact until I waved down our waiter and told him the situation. He apologized sincerely and told us he would go talk to her. My boyfriend and I were walking out to leave when Michelle steps in front of me and says “I wasn’t even asking you for a tip” and before she could say anything else I thanked our waiter for his time and left. I don’t know if this has happened to anyone else but that is NOT okay for a worker to do. It was disrespectful and embarrassing for both my boyfriend and I. My boyfriend was so upset that he ended up scribbling out his old tip and put a MUCH higher tip on the bill. Michelle doesn’t deserve that money but my boyfriend did it anyways not to cause trouble. Michelle you clearly don’t like your job to be flat out rude to me in the beginning, yell at me in front of others saying you “only make $2 an hour and to put down a tip,” and yell at my boyfriend that he didn’t give you a high enough tip. And FYI when you have a bad attitude at your job and are rude to customers, you’re not going to get a great tip. Seen other reviews who’ve said the same about the service here. Also, I hope Michelle didn’t write down a tip on my receipt after I left and I get charged more, like some of the other reviews have said. I Don’t think I’ll ever go back to Tosh’s...

Tosh really brought the ramen game to SLC before there was a dedicated ramen place around. Once he opened a dedicated shop it's had strong business every since. I don't think anyone does a better Tonkatsu broth in town. The noodles are excellent. The Shoyu broth I had was nice as well. His charsu was perfect. Yea, a place, or two, torch it and add a little flavor, but it still is hard to fault. I'll pick a bit on calling the eggs onsen poached eggs. They are ajitsuke eggs no matter what it says. The whites are just too set for onsen. Of all the ramen places I've been, only one in Vegas had proper onsen eggs for an extra price. That said the yolks were perfectly creamy golden. Although there it does not appear they are marinated in left over charsu broth. So perhaps just soft boiled and neither onsen nor ajitsuke This is a straight forward casual sit down place. There is no seating bar, or open kitchen. They have Sapporo and Kiren beer, so that's good. Enough with the nits. I personally like that the ramen was not overloaded with tons of add-ins. Just a few spring onion slices, bean sprouts, the charsu and the egg. Exactly what I want. I don't need a slice of nori sticking out, nor lots of other additions that seem to be for show more than what I want to eat. In a city with new places springing up one after another Tosh's not only holds its own, it still provides the best tonkatsu around town. We came in about 1 pm on a Saturday. It was near full. We walked right in. When we left about 2 pm, there was a line of about a dozen. So, who knows. It's still busy a lot of the time. Tosh was there acting as busboy, and talking with those who recognized he was the owner, doing what owners do -- jumping in...

Tosh's ramen is a difficult place to review. First off, I was very excited to go as I adore ramen in every way shape and form and having spent time in Japan and being from Hawaii my standards were very High. I had the Katsu Curry, the Tonkatsu Ramen and and order of Gyoza. First off, the Katsu Curry was highly authentic, golden japanese style curry with a hint of spicy, the pork was breaded in Mochiko flower and was perfectly fried, it was nice. The gyoza though left much to be desired, Gyoza for something that seems so simple is incredibly difficult to make and requires a lot of attention to detail and the knowledge of what to do and when. The bottoms of the gyoza were burned black, little to no oil was used, the pork hash was was bland and flavorless and the dipping sauce was so mild that it added nothing to the dish itself. It was incredibly disappointing. I almost wonder if the Chef was training a new cook. As for the crowning jewel of any ramen shop the ramen itself. The Tonkatsu ramen was easily one of the best I have ever had outside of japan, creamy white broth, perfect flavor, the ramen noodles were quite nice, perfectly cooked. The only complaint that I have aside from the Gyoza is the establishment has absolutely no ambiance whatsoever, decorations, tables, seating and while that might annoy some people the true defining feature of a ramen shop is of course its ramen. I give Tosh a 4/5. And will definitely...
