It was wife’s birthday and family wanted to try something new vs a tried and tested Sushi restaurant. We recently heard about Veggie House so gave it a try. The menu had a mix of Sushi and Thai and Chinese options so we felt we struck gold when we looked at it. It is a local restaurant so kudos to the owners who are working on keeping it going. But sadly, unlike the experience of other reviews the wow factor didn’t hit the mark as much as we wished it would. It is a good thing that we do not need to struggle hard to choose a vegetarian item but when you look at the bill and then the serving size, a little sizzle is lost.
The items came out very quick. So nothing against the service. The taste though - especially the sushi rolls when compared to the other Sushi restaurant we voted down today - was meh.
For Entrees, you get the option of 4 kinds of proteins: beef, chicken, shrimp or tofu. Noodles, soup, Curry, fried rice are the main varieties.
Appetizers and salads fill the rest of the menu. Prices are not mentioned anywhere do best you ask up front so you have an idea. 4 entrees, 3 sushi rolls, and 1 summer roll - the bill came out to be $100 something +tax+tip+ credit card fees.
You can definitely try it once if you have to drive out of your way to go there. If you are in the area and need a bite, you can stop by. Would I go there again a second time just...
Read moreThe food was overpriced, and they do not put the prices on the menu. For $67.00 we had a Vegas Roll, Sweet Potato Roll, Spring Rolls and Edamame, and nothing more. One of the other reviews said that they were charged differently on each visit. I was curious what we would be charged for the same items if we ordered through uber eats. Sure enough, the exact same items through uber eats from this restaurant would have been $62.00 ($5.00 less). I am truly curious why it would be cheaper to order through uber eats then in person. I am also truly curious as to why this same order is approximately double what it would cost at a similar restaurant where they take your order at the table, instead of at the counter. At Veggie House restaurant you order at the counter and fetch your own water. I do understand that this is a specialty restaurant because it is vegan, but that does not account for the lack of posted prices, the fact that we were charged more for going in person vs. ordering uber eats, and the huge discrepancy in price as compared to a full service restaurant. Considering this, I feel like giving three stars...
Read moreFood was good and for the most part, felt very healthy (although my lo mein was a bit more oily than I would have liked). Most of the vegetables were cooked to a delightful tender-crisp, with the exception of the carrots which appeared to be purchased frozen and pre-cut. Lots of different options to choose from, which is very nice. My only complaint would be that dinner for 2 was over $40 after tip and a surprise fee for using my credit card (nobody said anything about it until the very end of my transaction). Considering the fact that it is a pay-first, casual environment and the fact that our food consisted almost entirely of rice, noodles and common vegetables (some of which, as noted were frozen), I think they could offer a bit better value. In that same vein, they charge you a fee to use your credit card (as noted) and charge an extra dollar for brown rice, so it felt a bit like nickel and dimeing to me. But I don't want to come off as being too negative - I do plan on coming back because it was very good. I just think there's s little room for...
