This review is more for the food truck. They were located at Rolling Oaks Mall for an event and we usually enjoy Hawaiian food. This was around lunch time to set a time frame. The food truck itself stood out to us and the decor was nice as well. We weren't fond of the prices, especially with the portion sizes that was given to us. However, since we were at the event and don't do this often, we said why not. Let's spoil ourselves.. We decided to try three different options. The food was served in Chinese takeaway boxes(the kalbi takeout box had a gap of empty space at the bottom where rice probably should've been, we also did not like the fortune cookie sitting on top of our food which is potentially part of the issue). While the food tasted good at the moment, for the most part, that evening and the day or two after were not pleasant.. anyone that ate the food from that truck, got sick. We were either hugging the toilet or on it. Not sure if the food were poorly and improperly handled, the fortune cookie and cross-contamination or whatever the case is but never again. This is one Hawaiian restaurant checked off our list. Again, this is for the food truck and not the brick and mortar location but it is still the same kitchen. We didn't eat much that day so it was easier to determine what was the cause..

I visited Aloha Kitchen today for the first time. For my first visit I ordered the Kalbi plate with cucumber kimchi, mac salad and sticky rice. I also had the pot sticker appetizer. The serving size of the Kalbi was great, nice thick cuts of meat, charred on the edges, cooked medium well inside, and a rather large portion. They left the strips of fat on the edges of the meat which is what gives it a lot of flavor, theres nothing worse than lean kalbi. The portion and price of this item beat all of the other local Korean and Hawaiin restaurants. The cucumber kimchi was spicy and fresh, not overly caked with pepper like many places, the mac salad was good as well, but a bit plain for my taste. The meal as a whole was excellent. Service here was good as well, the entire staff was friendly and talkative, going table to table to check on customers. The menu has a nice variety of items, all priced more affordably than other restaurants. A nice mixture of cultural foods blended hawaiin style. I will definitely be visiting again to try some more items. Its a shame they are only open for lunch. If you cant make lunch they are open late on Fridays, so give this place a try. Its definitely a must try.

Aloha Kitchen is the hidden gem for Island cuisine here in San Antonio. NEW FRIDAY HRS: They have extended their hours on Friday's! Now open from 11am-8pm... (still recommend calling to be sure) From the moment you walk into this little "Hole in the Wall Cafe" it's easy to imagine you have walked into a little neighborhood Cafe in Maui or on the North shore... You are greeted by owner or family and invited to find your own table... The cafe may be packed if you hit a day when all the islanders from Ft Sam decided they want Hawaiian home-cooking! If you don't know what POG is, just ask and enjoy one of the favorite beverages from the islands. (Pineapple, Orange, Guava juice). Take your time to read the menu and ask the server to explain the different dishes, if you aren't familiar with Island favorites menu. For an hour or so, you are back in the islands. For an escape from the typical, put Aloha Kitchen on your must go to list

I was looking up this restaurants hours and reviews, and saw a review about its food truck that was at the Festival in Rolling Oaks Mall.

I was also at that Event, and I completely disagree.

Of all the food there, this was my favorite. My family and I ate there on both days of the Lunar New Year Festival. Not 1 of the 5 of us got sick. Nor did any of our friends, who also attended the event, and ate at this food truck. We were at that festival from the opening ceremonies to the close on the first day, and left around 3pm the second day because superbowl. All of the people we saw ordering before us looked fine too. Turns out that the stylish kids ahead of us were k-pop performers we saw dancing inside the mall at one of the stages around an hour later.

Anyway, the staff was very welcoming, kind, and informative. Because of my husband's food allergies and my dietary restrictions, we asked them alot of questions about their food and ingredients, and asked for recommendations. They kindly told us everything. All of their food came with a scoop of rice. It was just the right amount of food, and the box it came in made it easy to walk around with since there were no tables to sit and eat at during the festival.

Everthing tasted fresh and was delicious. The poke was a bit spicy, but the flavor was bold and unique compared to other poke I've had. I also bought their juices which complemented the food perfectly. They even gave my kids extra cookies for "good luck" while we waited.

We ate at all of the amazing food trucks there. Literally ate every single thing (we're foodies). Every food truck there had similar prices. It's about the same price range, if not cheaper, than what I see at Fiesta events. We came to this festival specifically for speciality exotic foods, and we got it cheaper than we expected.

They did tell me they have a restaurant (a scratch kitchen), and other food on their normal menu. If their festival menu is that delicious, I can only imagine their full plates. I personally can't wait to go there.

I do recommend giving this truck a try if you see them at an event. But if you perhaps have food allergies, or a sensitive stomach, just ask what's in the food. These people were very open and honest. They had no problem answering all of our questions, and showed genuine concern and care in selecting what was best for whom. They even gave us samples before we even made the solid decision to eat there. They made it very easy for us compared to most other places who make it uncomfortable.

I am very thankful for that experience. I am grateful for delicious authentic hawaiian food. I can honestly say not one of my family and friends at that event got sick after eating their food multiple times on both days.

If "everyone " who ate there got sick, I'm sure they would have gotten shut down or kicked out by the mall....

First of all, the service and hospitality are absolutely INCREDIBLE. They are very friendly and as others have said, they make you feel like a family member and right at home.

They reserved a table for six of us around noon time on a Friday – not sure if they do this for everyone or if it was because our incredible hostess had the “hookup.”

I had the Loco Moco (hamburger steak on top of white sticky rice, topped with two eggs over easy but you can order them however you like). The Loco Moco was good but it just didn’t have a whole lot of seasoning to it. The entree included what they refer to as macaroni/potato salad but to me it just seemed like a good macaroni salad. It might have had potato salad ingredients, but I really didn’t notice it. I was also able to select an additional side (they are not listed on the menu) and I chose the namasu cucumber salad, which was REALLY awesome. I highly recommend it.

Although I did not order it, one of my lunch buddies let me sample the coconut cream corn. I’m not a huge fan of coconut and although the combination of coconut and cream corn did not sound appealing, I was dead wrong. It was OUTSTANDING.

They have been in business since the mid 1980’s so they must be doing something right. Get out there and give them a...
