I tried honey‘s chicken when they first opened at 11 AM. First thing I noticed when going in their soda machine was down. When I got to the counter, I was greeted by a friendly lady. They made me feel optimistic about the food. I was getting ready to get for the drink I asked her if the sweet tea was good. She said “it’s sweet I even dipped my finger in it” I knew that was her southern charm, however when I got the tea, it was very subpar. I ordered the two-piece mix breast and thigh with fries, and I added an order of fried okra. In about three minutes, one of the employees brought my food to the table. 1st thing that I noticed the skin of the chicken appeared a bit dark as if it was close to being burnt. I ordered my chicken spicy in there delivery of that was sprinkling Cajun seasoning on the outside. Additionally, I also noticed that the breading itself didn’t get a good adherence to the skin as I could see the lightly yellow skin sticking out from underneath and clear signs of heavy fat on the chicken thigh, tearing off a piece of the skin to try What either makes it breaks fried chicken the skin. As I stated, the skin itself was rubbery, and the breading reminded me of lunchroom oven fried chicken. It wasn’t really crispy. It tasted very bland other than occasional seasoning that they sprinkled on top to make it spicy, and although I know that it was fresh from seeing them make it, it tasted very stale like it was old. I tried a piece of the chicken breast and although very juicy there was no flavor to the chicken at all. The best part of the visit was the biscuit, small in stature but good flavor soft and crumbly. The fries were Cajun style fries from any frozen food section resembling that of Rally’s or checkers and the fried okra was very lightly breaded with zero flavor in the okra itself tasted like it needed to be in the fryer for an additional 2 to 3 minutes. As I was raised to eat the food on my plate because there were starving children in other parts of the world, I tried to give it an honest go and finish what was on my plate. It really bothered me to have to throw a full plate of food away. I’m not sure who was in the test kitchen developing their flavor Profile but they definitely missed the mark. I honestly feel that if things aren’t changed honey’s, won’t be in...
Read moreWe’ve been driving by for the past 2yrs waiting and hoping for Honey’s Chicken Joint to open. Today we were driving by and saw a few cars out in the parking lot and two lovely gentleman getting the sign ready stating “Soft Opening 11am-5pm” We decided this is where we are eating immediately! So, we make the turn and get situated in a parking spot. Before walking in I looked at the plants they had on their outside table and they were real as were the ones inside. I love the fact they took the time to get real succulents and dress them up according to the atmosphere of the building. The outside of the building so bright and happy and very inviting. As soon as you walk in you get the same vibe and so much more. It feels like I just walked in to my grandmas country kitchen. It was so inviting and homey feeling. The service made you feel like you were with your own family at a family reunion. They were super attentive and very kind. The food was absolutely amazing. It doesn’t taste like to normal run of the mill chicken places that are franchises. It has its own flavor both the bone in chicken and the chicken tenders. The fries are waffle fries like chick fil a, but so much better, because of the seasoning and the crispy crust on them. The country was superb! The Mac and cheese was good too and I can’t wait to try to other menus items. 100/10...
Read moreComing in here, my friend and I felt super welcomed. We were helped at the front register by Laura, and the shorter woman with whiter hair helped us with our drinks very quickly. They were so attentive, explained anything we asked with patience, and even checked on us to see how we liked the food. I only have 4 stars for the food specifically because I ordered the spicy bone-in chicken and it was not spicy enough. It was more like a black pepper taste overall, so the heat for me was non-existent. But the quality of the food was great. The chicken was suuuper tender and juicy. Then we went back for a second helping of the biscuits. They have honey at every table so it almost felt like home because I could just gorge on a nice honey biscuit. It was so fluffy, and not doughy. The atmosphere is very traditional southern style and I love it. The music was great, a good volume, not too loud, and they were playing badass Stevie Ray Vaughan type blues and it was so nice. Overall, great first experience. Spicy chicken just needs more spicy flavor. I was hoping to see some...
