We had a terrible experience in this restaurant, which assumes itself elegant I guess. We went there as a group of 12 women; two adults and ten teens. We were returning back to Austin from a fun trip in San Antonio. Despite the efforts of my friend who picked this restaurant so we could all enjoy Halal food since the majority of us were Muslim, the owners treated us unexpectedly rude. The service was very slow. They only had one waitress. They told us that we went there without rsvp and they were nice enough to accept us. I wish they didn’t because it was just a regular quality restaurant, nothing highly to talk about. I have been to some other halal restaurant with great food and quality and design in San Antonio and this was the worst. We spent more than an hour and 30 minutes because of their slow service, not serving the food on time, mixing students’ orders, missing dishes, and not even getting the check timely although we wanted to get away as quickly as possible since the chef women was very rude although she seemed to be nice. She called me and the majority of the teens at our table as “my people” when she was arguing and responding to my non-Muslim friend, singling her out. I didn’t like the way the chef woman talked to her, and I would never accept such behavior from a Muslim woman, doesn’t matter where she is from. They were lack of staff on a Saturday evening and didn’t accept the reality. They were to be blame for not bringing my water for 15 minutes, not cleaning our table after some of us drank coffee, for mixing the orders, and not bringing the pizza for about an hour. However, they told us (I believe the waiter man - there was only one waiter and one waitress anyway) that we were too much; we were walking around too much according to them and asking for food: what else do we supposed to do after waiting for too long and not getting what we wanted. All in all, not all of us get the food we wanted, three-four orders were mixed up and my friend didn’t get her pizza at all. Even to go order had issues. Also gyro wrap was very juicy that some girls complained. Additionally, when the chefs noticed they didn’t make the pizza and decided to make it after bringing all the orders an hour later (why does it take an hour to bring the orders for 12 people when the restaurant wasn’t even full) and when my friend refused to have the pizza after all since we had to leave and drive back to Austin, it was then the chef woman reached out to her and said that she was insulted because of my colleague’s comments, so she caused an argument in front of everyone. So many things went wrong and they said that it wasn’t their fault; however, they weren’t prepared at all. There was another group who came after us to celebrate someone’s dissertation. They probably had time but they received better treatment than us. Even though some of our teens enjoyed the food, we were coming back from a fun trip and both the waiters and chefs ruined it. We only wanted to have good food together with our students. Our students were not happy and complained about some stuff, too; however, the woman thought the teachers were the problem. I could’t eat my food after how we were treated although I was starving. I paid for eating nothing. There were only four staff anyway who were both cooking and serving. Not professional. I would never go there again and would never...
Read moreWe entered to the restaurant that was empty. Maybe two other parties were present max, already with their food. We asked if they had room for 12 and they said yes and were able to sit us down. They only had one waitress, which we understood, but then more people kept coming in and they kept receiving their orders while we weren't. Male staff (the chef & the tall guy, I'm assuming the manager?) were rude. The waitress that helped us was actually nice. An hour passed , nothing was brought to us yet other than beverages. We mentioned that we were still waiting on the food, and as our orders were coming out they were wrong and still missed a lot of plates. It has now been one hour and a half and I still have not received my plate. I had asked the manager if they could remove some plates, and he said to give him a minute.... 15 minutes passed and I still had all the plates that were on the way and not allowing our guests to eat comfortably. At this point, I stood up to drop off the plates and the manager said "you all have be patient since you didn't come with a reservation" . I wasn't complaining, but that's when he upset me because he was giving an attitude for no reason.
UPDATE: the lady, I'm assuming the owner or also co manager? Just came to complain to us at the table saying we are coming to THEIR house & they accommodating and that we're the ones being rude because we are "too much". She was raising her voice and interrupting to my colleague & I (we're teachers taking our girls to field trip).
My group of students is muslim and so is my colleague. I've known and taught them for over 5 years. I'm hispanic, I'm the only non-muslim member of my educational club , and she kept saying ... "I'm being nice and accommodating because these are "MY PEOPLE" she proceeds to point at them, and says that no other restaurant would do this for anyone. At this point she starts comparing this restaurant to an American restaurant, and I just knew it wasn't about the service anymore. I knew they were just excluding me & because I'm not part of their community. A community whom I've grown close to and fond of because of my students and colleagues (I work for a school predominantly arab/muslim)
Needless to say, the manager never came back. The lady only started talking to my students in their native language ... My students were in shock... and she started telling them that she loves them because they are "her people" and did not come back to apologize.
Coffee was actually...
Read moreThe restaurants ambience is top notch, and Egyptian theme and the interior is captivating. The restaurant was nearly empty so we were quickly greeted. The Server was attentive and took our order with efficiency. I've visited this place before and I ordered the kushari plate which I very much enjoyed. Every ingredient was fresh and the portion size was just right, and because it’s meatless dish it was a generous amount which was expected. However, this time I went for lunch and invited my friends. This visit was very very disappointing. The food here is pricey for the portion size, and quality compare to other places. This time the portion size for the Kushari was much smaller than that of last time. The rice was crumbly and moist and pasta had a gooey texture which is obvious sign of going bad. The red sauce that comes with it was about 2-3 tablespoon. Also the crispy fried onions were very soggy as if the onions were fried half way and thrown on top with rush. My friend also noted the lack of meat in the lamb kebab wrap, which was supposed to be wrapped in freshly baked pita bread according to the menu, but unfortunately it was wrapped in a flour tortillas. Not so mediterranean! He unraveled the wrap to show me how very little the meat was and all I saw was a load of lettuce. The tahini sauce had an unpleasant fermented rotten flavor. He asked for garlic sauce instead and the sauce was so runny and tasted like a watered down mayonnaise. He also mentioned the greens in the salad were brown and found some tiny slimy wet parts, and the cucumber and tomatoes were wilted and old. Additionally, the salmon dish my other friend ordered was dry and didn't have any herbs or seasoning and absolutely no Dijon mustard and sun-dried tomatoes as described in the menu. The salmon was garnished with one burnt garlic. The menu descriptions are very misleading and false. If it’s not served why put it on the menu? As for the open kitchen concept, my advice to the management and owner of Luxor is to be more selective with front line cooks . Customers don't want to see an old, grumpy, stressed, and distracted cook in the kitchen and customers most definitely don’t want to see the cook...
