Rock and Rye — Restaurant in San Antonio

One of the worst experiences ever. My friends and I stopped this place after doing a wine tour for a friends birthday. We ended up entering through a side entrance by mistake and an employee had the side door open. We asked if we could walk in through this entrance. The employee said yea and held the door open for us. The place was pretty empty at this time. Two of our friends had gotten in and were already enjoying a drink. Upon us entering we noticed the bar manager and some staff staring us. They seemed upset but we weren’t sure why. Before we could order anything we were told we had to leave. According to the manager (who was incredibly rude & unprofessional) we were told they wouldn’t be serving us because we entered through the side entranced. We explained that one of their employees told us it was on and even held the door open for us. None of this mattered. Our friends who had just bought their drink we were refused a refund. We were ushered out immediately without any further explanation. It was quite frankly embarrassing and confusing. When we entered all of us were speaking Spanish. Which left us to conclude that this was clearly & simply racist reasons for the apparent mistreatment. All of us are in mid-late 30s. We were going to buy a bottle to enjoy the rest of the day to celebrate our friends birthday. Again, I want to emphasize the entire bar was empty. The staff and managers treatment was absolutely unfounded. Do not spend your money at this place. I can guarantee you if our group had been all white males the treatment would of been completely different. Will never return here even if we frequent the rim bar area quite a bit. Stay away from this place. I hope upper management sees this and has a discussion with their female manager about how she treats customers. Especially when their establishment seems to be lacking in customers. dead on a friday night - asked for service, got skipped and finally got our drinks after 30 minutes… fully staffed bar but they have all the time to talk amongst themselves and ignore customers. my partner and i thought it was funny to watch them all do a whole lot of nothing - you know, when you’re just looking busy so that the manager doesnt call you out. They stood in groups talking, polishing the same glass over and over and over again, urgently rearranging random bartop supplies every 10 minutes, lights went up at 1:40 AM, They definitely hated everyone for still being in the bar before closing 😂 if you hate your job, just quit lol

Update in response to the man-child: As if it wasn't already obvious, no we definitely will not be back lmfao i promise 🤣 And yes kiddo it was dead. All the booths were empty when we came, and the bartop was maybe 3/4 filled. i guess thats “busy” for yall 🤔

To anyone else reading this: I wish i was joking, but I said what I said. My guess is the barstaff wanted to go home already and were too tired to give any real service by the last part of their shift. It was truly hilarious to watch them do the gymnastics of ignoring customers by being too busy with closing sidework

I arrived early on a Friday and the bar was completely filled so I stepped to the side of the bar to order a round of drinks. Dom the bartender rudely screamed “we don’t take orders on the side of the bar”. I stepped towards the crowded bar and behind everyone I said “ok can I order from here?” He screamed again pointing at the bar … “ here is where you need to order if you want to get served” he looked very agitated and upset. Then he yells “what do you need?” At that point I no longer wanted to have him serve me so I asked his peer to open my tab. I tipped his peer $100 and said to Dom you are the rudest bar tender I have ever encountered. He smiled as if it was a compliment. I’m a grown professional adult and to be yelled at by a college kid as if I was a toddler was not only uncalled for and rude but something I as a business owner would not tolerate from any of my employees towards customers. Therefor I attempted to let Steve the manager know about the situation and his response was just as bad as Dom.
