Honestly, the food was pretty ok, as was the coffee, it’s a cute little location with great photo op possibilities if you’re into that kind of stuff. It was super packed so it did take a the hottest minute to get our food, and by the time we got it, it was unfortunately not warm anymore, we lucked out with a table while we waited but it was super packed, there were multiple tables where people were just hanging out or studying, and it just felt like there should be some kind of rule that limits the amount of time a group can be at the table without ordering something, because there were multiple groups who did order and couldn’t even be inside past the ordering line, which for a place that’s main gimmick is being a photo op, it kind of takes away from the appeal, to be fair it’s the first week open, and it was blasted on social media, so it’s fair that they wouldn’t be ready for slammed traffic like that. While we were there, we saw multiple people disappointed with the food they got, which I think has mostly to do with the portion size. I don’t know many people who would want to pay $10-$15 for a single flat crepe with 2 TBSP of filling. The drinks are also kind of over priced the grande is the size of a tall at Starbucks and depending on what you get it can go from 4-7 bucks which again is just kind of a lot, and then they leave a lot of empty space in the already small cup, which just feels like the tiniest bit of a rip off, it is a decent cup of coffee, but as for most things, it could be done at home for 1/8 of the price. The waffles were a decent size, definitely a better deal Than the crepes from what I saw, but they also range anywhere from $10-$15 for a single waffle with pretty basic toppings, honestly you could get the same quality at ihop or make it at home easily for way cheaper. I do think the place is super cute, but it’s hard to appreciate it when it’s so jam packed (again I know that’s not their fault) and the food is pretty over priced for what it is, it’s nice for a one time visit but personally not worth the hype. If I wanted to pay $40 for two small coffees and two waffles… I wouldn’t… again 😅 but maybe...
Read moreSuch is the curse of Sunday brunching, but I think this is a hit or miss restaurant, depending on the quality of experience you expect.
I suppose they used the awning budget for the interior decorations, because a majority of the patio of awning is missing, leaving only a few small tables in shade and the rest to bake in the Texas sun. You may not have luck getting a seat inside because the place is very busy.
The food was alright. I got a chicken and avocado crepe. Instead of avocado, the crepe had an avocado sauce situation. I didn't receive eating utensils with my meal, so I went look for some inside, and they were out. I asked someone who worked there if they could please get me some and she said that they were out, but gave me some plastic forks.
Two of our tables drinks did not arrive, despite us waiting (we can understand a wait, especially for Sunday brunch!) and eventually asking about them when my meal was delivered ten minutes before everyone else's. Server said there was a wait for drinks. So when everyone was done with their meal, we asked if we could just have a refund on the drinks because we were finished eating and ready to leave. The server asked (with attitude) if we had a receipt, but we didn't (because reasonably we did expect to not receive what we paid for.) A manager did refund us for the drinks we paid for but did not receive.
It is certainly a kitschy and cute aesthetic, so if you care about that above receiving your food and drinks in a reasonable time (or at all), this is your place. Maybe the owners could hire more employees to ease the burden of existing employees because they are admittedly working their butts off! Overall, I wouldn't say this was a terrible experience. But it was not enjoyable or fun, which I don't think is an unreasonable...
Read moreThis place DOES have a great vibe like another reviewer mentioned! The dining room was mostly full with happy, chatting customers. Everything seemed very clean and well-managed. When I walked up there were no other customers in line and the cashier was attentive, greeting me as I approached.
I had looked at the menu online before arriving so I had an idea of what I wanted. Under the Breakfast section of the menu, the "Cheesy Turkey crepe" also contained eggs and spinach. The menu really should list the ingredients so that people waiting in line can make an informed decision when they get to the register.
The Cheesy Turkey Crepe tasted amazing! I thought I detected either a cream cheese or buttermilk twang and I wasn't sure if it was in the crepe batter or a spread on the crepe. I asked the cashier and she said it was in the crepe batter but the ingredients are proprietary, made by a person who comes every day just to make the crepe batter. These are truly unique and tasty crepes!
I was also impressed that the crepe was filled full (unlike when you order savory crepes at La Madeleine). It was a filling meal that also came with a side of fresh berries. I left feeling satisfied but not over full. If I had had a friend with me, I would have ordered a sweet crepe as well and we would have split both.
I saw a couple of dishes being served as I ate my crepe. I saw the cinnamon roll crepes looked like they were served in individual rolls (crepe was rolled and cut into pieces), maybe there were 12 on the plate. I also saw what looked like French toast piled up with berries and whipped cream... It looked amazing! I had a little food jealousy for a moment. Bathroom was clean, tidy, and well-stocked.
Overall, my impression and my experience at Caffeinated Crepes was...
