Papouli's Greek Grill — Restaurant in San Antonio

I feel the need to write a review of this restaurant?? Really? A couple of weeks ago I made the mistake of choosing this place for a Greek Salad. Upon entering this place I observed a dreary interior. Cement floors,old wooden tables and chairs, no tablecloth,atmosphere very dark and dreary.

I ordered their Greek salad with Gyro. The staff who took my my order didn’t seem to care. I have severe osteoporosis. I had to pick up my order at the counter. No service at all. The Gyro was awful. Lukewarm, no taste, not fresh. There was only a small sprinkle of feta cheese. The greens had no flavor and no olive oil. No olives. I asked for a to go plastic plate. I had to walk up to counter. I asked for a to go plate. The male employee pointed to a pile of plastic plates that was stuck together up high on the counter. The employee made no effort to help me. So I stopped by today to grab a meal for my girlfriend. I was the only one "in line" at the time and my food was brought out to me quickly. Even though this meal was for my girlfriend, I still had to try it. I ordered the Roman Greco pita with gyro meat, a variety of veggies, and layered with tzatziki sauce (not sure if I spelled that right). This plate also came with a side of the buyers choice. I got the fries. The pita was good. I don't eat Greek food much so I can't compare this to anything, but it's good. The fries are average. They have potential but they aren't seasoned. We had to add some of our own seasoning to make them to our liking. Not their fault. Overall, my girlfriend is satisfied so Im satisfied. I give it 4 stars only because the cost was a little high for the amount of food I recieved. The food was decent and the service was fast...

I went to Papouli's hungry! I think I made a huge mistake in doing that! EVERYTHING looked so good! I ended up ordering the Papouli's Tapas (3 dips of your choice, with apparently a whole package of pita bread), the Meze Sampler Platter (dolmas, tyropita, falafel, feta, kalamata olives, and a dip of your choice with more pita), AND a gyro. I purchased all this KNOWING I was planning on bringing some to work with me. Didn't realize the portions were so big, and everything tasted so good, I didn't want to stop. I ate so much, I nearly made myself sick. The staff was friendly and helpful, food was delicious, and it is a nice, open, clean place. Worth driving a bit farther for! Check them out!!!
