Pepe's Barbacoa #4- Bandera Rd. (cash only) — Restaurant in San Antonio

It seems like a family business. Speaker outside with music. Screen door entry. Line inside and outside. Small establishment, but they are quick. Manager comes out and checks on everyone and asks the next person in line their order so they can already set it up so by the time they are to pay it's ready for the customer. Same applies to the others they ask ahead of time to speed things up which is a good thing. Inside establishment there is a big fan on a stand so I'm guessing the a/c doesn't circulate as much especially with the front door opening and closing cause of customers, however, while in line it didn't feel hot at all and outside it's around 85°+ today. 2 lbs Barbacoa and 1 large Salsa for about $41 not too bad compared to other locations. Parking spot is small but I was able to find several spots. This has to do with the speed of service as you'd just wait a minute or two and someone is leaving the lot already. So far so good. A good drive for me to go to but so far worth the drive even though several other barbacoa locations exist near me they just aren't consistent so looking forward to finding out how consistent they are. Oh it seems the type of location that you pick up only no dining in. Also picked up barbacoa around 10am and they still had plenty on a Sunday. I think their sign says open Saturday and Sunday but I'm not 100% on that as I had left before writing...

Paren la locura! Holy cow! This has to literally be the best barbacoa i have ever had in my life. Not only were we fortunate enough to get there when it wasn't super busy, but we also got the first serving of a fresh batch.

Ok so my best friend brought me to this place shortly I moved back into town. When it comes to Barbacoa, Pepe's is my ONLY stop. Salsa... REAL salsa. Amazing avocados. Yes, I said AMAZING, I have yet to run across a bad one. That Red stuff we all love to hate we drink.

Best surprise ever! The first Sunday of the month they have smoked Barbacoa. SMOKED! If you have not had this, then it's time you made a stop here.

Let's talk about the couple that run this humble establishment. I cannot think of a better example of what we, YOU, are missing out on when it comes to customer service. Efficient, friendly knowledgeable. Most importantly, the make me feel that my purchase was the one that broke the piggy bank. Every time. But then you walk out and realize every customer that is there loves this Amazing Beef Delight, they go there because they just had the same amazing experience I just had and have had.

Saturdays are for Barbacoa! For a little hole on the wall barbacoa & tamale place, this review earns a 5! The tamales and meat were amazingly delicious. One of my biggest fears is getting a lot of fat, so I typically get my barbacoa craving at HEB which I can always count on being lean. However, the barbacoa at Pepe’s Barbacoa was truly delicious tasting and lean, my two requirements. Their tamales are nice and thin not all bulky like some places. They serve only pork tamales, but I highly recommend them. They are delicious. They sell pico de gallo, salsa, and tortillas as well. The only thing I didn’t like is how the salsa is not spicy. I kept adding some, but I couldn’t achieve the strong kick I like. If you don’t like spicy salsa, this one will work just fine because it is good just not great! I’m a big salsa person. I know how good salsa tastes. The salsa makes the food not the other way around in my opinion. The owners were sweet. They let me take a picture of them. They were cordial...
