Pho Wok Asian Cuisine — Restaurant in San Antonio

I was so excited to try this place after seeing the 4.9 stars but unfortunately I am just disappointed. I hate to leave a bad review but it was very disappointing for somewhere that's rated so highly. I ordered online about an hour before pickup and got an orange chicken plate, sweet and sour chicken, chicken lo mein and chicken skewers. The chicken skewers are okay but a little dry and lukewarm. it says you get 4 and we got 6 which is nice, their portion sizes are pretty big. However im assuming they probably made the order a good bit before it was time to be picked up because a lot of the food was already on the colder side. The orange chicken was okay, it comes with an egg roll which was pretty good. The rice was plain fried but it was sticky and tasted like rice-a-roni. The biggest disappointment was the sweet and sour chicken. Some of the pieces tasted absolutely rancid like they were spoiled. It had a dish watery taste or something. Im pretty sure it was the chicken itself, not the batter or sauce. It was just very nasty I had to spit it out, It was not good at all and was a huge let down. Lastly the chicken lo mein was okay, again really big portion but the chicken tasted like it was pulled from a soup or something, again an odd taste maybe it's just seasonings or something but I don't recommend. Update since the owner responded about the time slot to pick it up. We ordered around 4:50 pm. Pickup time was at 6pm, so why make the food right when the order was placed when we wanted to pick it up later at 6pm? I would assume that if there is an option to order ahead for later, the food would be cooked closer to pickup time. We did arrive maybe a minute or 2 before 6pm to pick up because that's the time that was set...

We came across this place on Google maps, as we often like to explore local places in the vicinity when we get hungry. We were enticed to try out this place from viewing the pictures of the food in the reviews. We were in no rush , so we decided to dine in.

As soon as we walked in, we were greeted warmly. The overall vibe feels very homely. I cant quite find the words to describe it other than it felt like stepping into a sweet grandmother’s house for lunch. Not that there were any grandmothers there, as far as I know—but that’s the only way I can explain the warmth..

They seem genuine , not the automated "welcome in" most of of are accustomed to hearing when walking into chain stores. They genuinely seem happy to have you visit, They genuinely seem to care about your experience there and what you may need to enjoy your meal. Youre not just another customer, youre talking to a real human being , with glow behind the eyes.

The energy is absolutely golden, radiant soulful and grounding.

My partner ordered the combination pho, and I ordered the sweet and sour chicken. The establishment is somewhat small inside so it is close quarters, you can watch the chef behind the window in the kitchen preparing your food. Which only alludes to the transparency and overall comfort. It is honest And definitely more than meets the eye.

Its a beautiful atmosphere with fresh heartfelt food served by people who genuinely care to hear feedback about what you think of the food theyve prepared.

I ordered the chicken pho and egg drop soup. First, let me say say, there is something truly exciting about being a part of something someone is very passionate about. The owners of Pho Wok are passionate about cooking and giving their guests the most memorable experience possible. The food was fresh, the portion sizes were PHENOMENAL - much bigger than anywhere else I've been. I can easily make this order into 2-3 meals. Most places give you very little protein with your pho but these guys give you a VERY impressive amount. The food was still hot when I got home (about fifteen mins away). The prices were more than reasonable and they also have great specials! What really took the cake though, was when both of the owners thanked me for coming in and told me if there was anything wrong to please give them a call.
