Fredericksburger on Bandera Rd. Not to be confused with Banderaburger on Fredericksburg Rd. (if there actually was one). This is one of those colocated or tandem joined convenience store / gas station and fast food purveyor. Order at the counter from a good selection of burgers, french fries, tater tots, onion rings, pizza and dogs.
The dining room landscape looked like a Purina commercial with red, plastic baskets and checkerboard tissue containing burgers that dotted the occupied tables. No pizzas or dogs to judge a perceived desireability of those selections.
Crafted bread buns of roll knots made for an interesting burger patty shell. They did not hold up well, however, to the monsoonal flow of juice from my big two patty, done medium burger which required a quick underlayment of napkins to stem the saturation of the bottom bun. A deft flip of the burger botton to top also assisted in redistribution of gravity driven juice flow.
"Salt of the earth" can be a very complimentary term, but not as applied to an overuse of burger patty seasoning. Wanting to avoid a rehydration chug session later we had our burgers redone for a much more acceptable sandwich seasoning.
Crinkle fries are always aesthetically pleasing to me, but the usually previously frozen nature of these furrowed spuds are not the best tasting. Here that supposition holds true. A better bet would probably be the in-house made onion rings.
Decent cheeseburger, marginal crinkle fries, on your own...
Read moreFlavor: A- Service: A Tea: A Solo dining: A This burger joint is attached to a gas station convenience store but I’m certain there were more cars in the parking lot for the burger joint. All of the burgers (though they are pretty basic) have been given San Antonio-themed names and I got the 410 (which is a bacon cheeseburger… see what I mean). There is signage about their “fresh food” that isn’t fast food so I’m assuming that both the bun and burger patty are homemade. Both looked good, tasted good, and were perfectly cooked. Even though the patty was flavorful it still could use a little more seasoning so I’ll give it an A-. The veggies were diced (extra credit) and the bacon was fried up by some saint that knows how to cook some damn bacon (extra extra credit). All in all, it’s a great burger place that falls in an interesting category for me in terms of the type of burger to expect - somewhere between a Chris Madrid’s and a Burger Boy. The onion rings were also a hit for me with their thin peppery batter… the ideal side. Cheers to SA Fredricksburgers for cooking up some way-better-than-gas-station burgers at the gas station! #theburgertrail #texasburgers #burgerreview...
Read moreThis is what you could refer to as one of those little holes in the wall. People have obviously found this place before we did. And they have kept it very busy. I recommend when you first walk in to try and claim a table because this place fills up quickly and consistently. Even while waiting for the order we saw the line grow long and grow short over and over. We noticed several "to go" orders. Several. So now with all this commotion I'm thinking, I hope this is good. And it was. Boy was it. The young lady at the counter was super friendly (another plus). I had to open my burger to show it off, I know it doesn't look that good to some, but that ooey gooey cheese and chili gave my Bandera Burger its magic. And the picture isn't out of focus- its the steam. And the onion rings didn't look like anything special but looks can be deceiving. I kept trying to figure out what the flavor was that kept melting in my mouth. I'm guessing that it's butter but maybe just because I like butter lol. They were delish. This friend and I both enjoyed our meal and both of us are adding it to our burger list. High on the...
