Always a good time at smashin. This is a must-go for my bf from new jersey when he visits. We will even go here multiple times within 1 visit to TX! His favorite is the snow crab. Actually, the snow crab is actually a lot better than the LA Crawfish here in SA and LA fisherman in Houston. Something about the way they cook it or quality of the crab allows us to pull off that yummy chunk of meat in one piece. The trinity sauce is a must. I've tried the citrus one and it's good too but it's not as good. I usually get spice level 2. I dont handle spice too well but you need a little bit to enhance the flavors. 3 will make me really antsy and uncomfortable. They use a lot of butter in the sauce....the sauce is so good I pretty much eat all of it too... If you want to get full, order 1lb shrimp and fries. I was stuffed. I asked for a tray to put my shrimps in instead of reaching into the bag. I've never tried their fried baskets but they look good. But why go to a boil place to get fried good? Another positive thing is that their bibs have a pocket at the bottom to catch sauces that may drip to your pants. I like that the waiters write their name on the white paper Smashin loses 1 star for me because their add ons of potatoes and sausages is soo expensive. 50 cents per red potato??? Do you have any idea how many cheap potatoes are at the store? And $2 for sausage (I dont remember how many links). The one time my bf and I opted for the bbq sausage (better value) instead of the boiled sausage, they were out. Others reasons for losing a star: their prices arent really market price. I've been here at least 5 times in the summer, winters and spring, and the prices dont change. The only thing that changes is whether crawfish is available or not. Shrimp per pound should be $1 cheaper. I love mussels but sometimes the mussels are only shell and no meat. . They need to have better sinks for washing hands. Or maybe a handwashing station that's outside the bathroom area. The bathroom is dark and I feel bad for washing my spices down those drains and potentially clogging them. They shed at least add those forearm door openers so customers can open the door without using their hand. I hope Smashin considers this suggestion!! .

My husband and I had an experience at a different location that wasnât the best, food-wiseâŚso we tried this one, because weâd heard it was much better. We were told correctly! The food was phenomenal! We both started with a drink (my husband had a beer on tap, and I ordered the Eye of the Hurricane. My drink was DELICIOUSâŚbut unfortunately didnât have anything on the rim like my waitress told me it would. Even without the rim dressing - it was still yummy! We then ordered oysters, and were so pleased!! They were HUGEâŚ& came with all of the sides, except horseradish. We actually ordered a dozen, but only received a half dozen. We decided not to bring it up, because we knew weâd be too full to finish our dinner. Lastly - we ordered the Trolley Stop Boil with the Cajun Sauce and a #3 Alarm heat level. It was none of the best boils weâve ever had at a restaurant!!! SO YUMMY!!! The seasoning was PERFECT, and everything tasted fresh and delicious. And for the record - we ended up having to take half the meal home with us! We could NOT finish it! The atmosphere of this location was very chill, but welcoming. The host was great! He even helped bring food out to us at one pointâŚ& was just so friendly and funny! Our only complaint was our waitress. As mentioned, she told us about things, and never followed through with them. The drink rim dressing, bringing out crackers for our oysters (we had to ask again), bringing us out lemons with our boil (again, had to ask twice)âŚ& we asked twice for garlic butter sauce on the sideâŚbut never got any. She also seemed to rush us. Itâs very rare that we get a date nightâŚso we wanted to take our time and just enjoy our evening. She just seemed like she was trying to hurry us, and even seemed annoyed a couple of times when we werenât ready. HOWEVER. The host? As mentioned - he was great. Weâll definitely be back to this locationâŚwe just might try to get seated in a different area. The host, the food, and the atmosphere made it a wonderful experience!đŠľ

First off, the manager and our server Julian were awesome with taking care of us and making us feel welcome. They went above and beyond to answer all questions and help where needed. We had a small hair in one of the boudin balls, but it happens and was corrected instantly. Not only that but they were super apologetic about it and gave us the appetizer free for the inconvenience. Even when we said we'd pay if they wanted. Now to the food. This has been by far one of the best seafood/cajun food experiences I've had in San Antonio since I moved here a year ago. The heat of the 3 alarm spice (habanero pepper sauce) was perfect heat and flavor, especially mixed with the trinity sauce mix. The citrusy, buttery, garlic flavor of the trinity sauce was superb and paired well with their Alamo Reaper Sauce that I got on the side (super spicey Carolina Reaper pepper sauce). The boudin Balls were the best I've had in 15+ years since the ones I used to buy as a teenager back in my hometown. They were full of awesome pieces of pulled pork, spices, and rice with epic creole flavors. Then I was able to taste the catfish and fried oysters. Both amazing and flavorful as well, they had a great buttery, peppery flavor. The dipping sauces for the Boudin Balls and other stuff was also very delicious and full of flavor. They also have the best sweet potato fries I've ever had, with epic spices for a flavor I've yet to have with sweet potato fries. To top all of this epicness off they have a pretty awesome happy hour too. With their $4 draft craft beers, and $5 signature cocktails. All this was fairly priced as well, where some things were a little pricier, for the freshness and taste I'd say it's more than worth it. If you're looking for some awesome seafood/cajun food check this place out, you won't be disappointed.

Food is great here and our waitress was attentive. She checked up on us every few minutes. Problem I had was our waitress up selling our entree claiming it's on a special based on an arbitrary price. Up selling is fine but claiming it's $40 off their regular price without mentioning the original or final price is not ok. Being a sports bar like environment, it's loud and hard to hear. We both heard it'd be around $70 which we were ok with. When the bill came, it surprised us just the entree was $110. Neither my girlfriend nor myself heard the waitress say anything over $100 when she pitched it to us and the waitress confirmed she had not told us the actual price and there was nothing she could do since we ate it already. Morning after update: Dropping from 2 stars to 1 star. As I'm writing this update from the bathroom, I'm not sure what we ate was spoiled. We didn't have anything else to eat prior and I'm really feeling the heat now if you know what I mean. In addition to the mixed pot of seafood, we also had the char grilled oysters. It went from an overpriced good meal to an overpriced and disappointing meal. Really had high hopes for this place before going as we decided to go to this place instead of 8 other restaurants. I'm hoping the owner checks the reviews either here or on yelp and train their staff to be more professional. Would be an even bigger shame if the staff was trained to deceive customers like this.
