Side Wok Cafe — Restaurant in San Antonio

Was wary to visit based off of the reviews but I don't understand why this place gets so much flack. It's bomb 🔥. I came at 6:00pm everything was fresh and delicious. The women behind the counter were so friendly!

I Ordered the  Combo II and got what I believe to be teriyaki or bourban chicken , orange chicken ,fried rice and noodles With an egg roll

FIRSTLY i just wanna say everyone's cooking is vastly different and everyone has their preferences , most people are used to panda express when judging/comparing what Asian food is "supposed" to taste like (dont get me wrong I ain't hatin on panda either) but Asian food has VASTLY different tastes and to judge a food because it's not something you're used to isn't fair. I personally cook asian dishes for my family and can't Stress ENOUGH how vastly different taste is from person to person, family to family.

ANYWAYS

Firstly there's not a strong taste of soy sauce in the food like most Asian food places. So keep that in mind.

Which can be surprising to the palette if its not what youre used to but I definitely enjoyed it, as everything felt lighter less salty = felt healthier. If you enjoy the taste of soy sauce bring your own haha!

The greasiness scale , was a little on the greasy side but more so felt like It was due to all the natural juices coming from the chicken garlic other veg (of course they use oil when cooking) but it didn't feel like the nasty unhealthy type of greese.

•The orange chicken: 🍊  Delicious.  on the sweeter side. When I cook orange chicken I usually make mine more citrusy/tangy so that's my usual preference but for those who like the sweeter pallet of orange chicken , this is what you're looking for! Regardless of my preference it IS DELICIOUS.

• T̲h̲e̲ ̲b̲o̲u̲r̲b̲a̲n̲/̲t̲e̲r̲i̲y̲a̲k̲i̲ ̲c̲h̲i̲c̲k̲e̲n̲: (not sure what it is 😅 I apologize): Mainly what drew me in to purchase from here it just looked so delicious , and sure as hell tasted delicious as well, it has a smoky grilled sweet taste and I just absolutely loved it.

• Noodles 🍜 : How many times have I said delicious in this review, Delicious , I love me some sloppy noodles 😁 😋 loved the vegetables in the noodles as well.

Overall not bad at all , if you're looking for a lil something and have an open pallet then I'd recommend...

I hate to give such a low review. This place used to be amazing. We came to eat at around 12:40pm on Sunday. I don't know if it was just an off day but the food didn't taste good.

Got the two combo plate. Noodles, seasme chicken, teriyaki chicken, egg roll and a drink.

First off egg roll was soggy inside and had no flavor... except for inner wet egg roll wrapper. The sweet and sour sauce has changed because now it taste like bitter banana.

Teriyaki chicken has a faint grilled flavor. No salt or any other flavor. Orange chicken taste just like the sesame seed chicken. It is sweet but no orange or citrus taste. Very bland. Sesame chicken exactly like orange chicken. Barely any sesame seeds on it and the seeds aren't even toasted it is as if they shook some on before they threw it in the warmer. It wasn't spicey just sweet. Noodles had some soy sauce flavor but the onions and thick carrot slices tasted raw and undercooked.

Thus whole meal was lack luster in flavor but packed a massive stomach illness a few minutes later for my family and I. We all got sick. 😫

The food is very good , chicken teriyaki is juicy and has a grilled smoked flavor , noodles are nice and sloppy , you can see what you are buying when ordering so you are already halfway there . You should see half of the people that order at the food court , lol , that was the bad part about eating at the food court .
