We wanted to give this place a chance since so many businesses are opening on the southeast side, which we are excited about. We usually have our tacos at the corner restaurant but decided to try Don Benito's. It was a Saturday morning, so we expected a wait time however, we were seated right away, which we were thankful for. Our waitress was courteous, we asked for a booth, and we immediately had our drinks and our chip and salsa. We began to order, this restaurant doesn't have a kid friendly menu, so my son settled for chicken fajitas quesadilla ( which was an appetizer, but it could be a meal based on the size) My daughter ordered the tortilla soup, they didn't have different sizes, only 1, so she had a huge bowl of soup she did not finish. My husband wanted tacos but there is an only 2 taco of the same kind meal, so he would need to get 2 barbacoa tacos to get the rice or pay the difference and not get the rice so he just got the Carne guisada tacos with cheese to get the rice and a side of guacamole like the menu stated. I asked if they carried chicken fajita tacos, and she pointed to a chicken charred taco, I asked if it was the same, and she said yes with green peppers and onion plus rice and a side a guacamole. So I ordered that it was different so I was a little nervous. We got our food, like I stated, my son's plate was a whole meal, not an appetizer, which we ordered. I don't think it's an issue, but as a business owner, that is money left on the table. My daughter's soup was enough to feed a family of 3, it was pretty big, and because of that, she did not finish her soup. My husband and I got our food, okay so we did not get the guacamole as stated on the menu. My tacos we anything but chicken fajita tacos, it was sliced pieces of breast grilled and overly seasoned. It did not have any bell peppers or onion as the menu stated, I told the waitress, and she asked (with an attitude) for my plate to prove to her manager they were made wrong... ok.. It didn't feel like an authentic Mexican restaurant, I think they should redo their menu and watch their...
Read moreI am writing this review with 10+ years of service in the management field as well as food industry. I believe if you can’t do the simple food, you can’t do anything else. I went in and ordered the enchilada plates as well as a Carne Guisada plate. Both plates come with rice beans as well as tortillas and the advertise that their enchiladas are on special. They do have a happy hour with pretty good deals from 3 to 7. The atmosphere is relaxing. It is very quiet in there. But back to the food. The enchiladas it comes with two per plate with a decent size portion of rice and beans and a salad on the plate with two tortillas. The enchiladas do you have Carne Guisada gravy to cover them as well as a few pieces of Carne Guisada on the plate? The Carnegie guisada that comes on the enchiladas was really tender, which made it very simple and nice to eat the carne Guiana that came on the carne Guisada plate was really tender as well and was simple to eat. The rice and beans were flavorful enough to complement the rest of the food however, the tortillas receipts for both orders were a little crispy. Back to the enchiladas they were a little dry, even with the gravy on them and the rice I. The rice and beans where flavorful enough to complement the rest of the food however, the tortillas received for both orders were a little crispy. Back to the enchiladas they were a little dry, even with the gravy on them and the rice I received on my plate was a little hard. Both plates upon arrival were warm and not too hot. I ordered a sweet tea with my meal and the tea was actually really good. It was perfectly sweet enough. The food does come with chips and salsa and which the salsa to dip The chips in was a little salty and the chips we received were cold and not warm. But I would give this place overall a B+ on service, food presentation, and...
Read moreI came here with my family for my birthday. We booked a room and that process was very smooth. Everything else was not though.
When we arrived, the hostess was very rude. She ended up being our waiter and was very slow and not very attentive. It took a while for her to take our order and bring out our drinks. When our food came out, it came out separately even though we all ordered at the same time. For example plate 1 and 2 came out and by the time plate 3 and 4 came out, the first two people were done with their food. I believe it took about 30 mins between the first plate and 15th plate to come out (we were a party of 15).
Now, my family and I used to be waiters, so we understand the whole restaurant business. We were very patient, but the service was incredibly slow. And no matter how nice we were to the waitress, she was just in a horrible mood, like she was annoyed and didn't want to be there. We tried to give her and the kitchen the benefit of the doubt (for example, the food taking forever, but when I went to the restroom to see if maybe they were busy, there were only three other tables besides us in the restaurant OR when we needed more napkins, we kept waiting for her to come by and ask her, but since she didn't so I got up to go find her and she was on her phone texting outside our room).
To top it off the food was okay. Most of the fajitas that we ordered were burnt/overcooked. And just so you know, there is a extra fee added to the bill if you pay with credit card.
I was really rooting for this restaurant but was very disappointed. I will not be...
