Rarely do I have lunch here during the work week (it's close to home but a way's away from work), but I took the afternoon off. This place was jumpin' on a Friday around noon, and for good reason. I find it more appetizing --literally and figuratively--to sit in the bar area with a drink in hand, and then order other edibles (Exhibits A and B attached). Truthfully, I don't order from here as much as I used to. Sometimes, I get weekend breakfast take-out for me and the missus. The "Taco of the Month" always peeks my interest. This month is the "Double Wide"--a chicken fried masterpiece with bacon, cheese, and other tidbits. With a side of guacamole and chips, I threw some of the guac on my taco, topped it off with some flavorfully spicy Diablo Sauce, and chased it all down with a stellar draft IPA. Torchy's is the perfect stop for airport food. Great taste, unbeatable prices, and beautifully wrapped tacos for easy transport though security. Enjoy!

I've enjoyed Torchy's Tacos since they opened. Food: My favorite taco is the Mr. Orange. You can never go wrong with the chips and queso either. They have a half portion of it if you're just going by yourself. It's not on the menu, but if you ask for it, you will get it. It will save you about $1.75. Some might think that $5.25 for a salmon taco is a bit much. However, the tortillas are LOADED with food, so you're definitely getting your money's worth. Service: The line and wait time for your food can sometimes be long at this location, but it is definitely worth the wait. San Antonio could use another one of these, but that might not happen since there are about 5-6 restaurants an hour and half away in the Austin area, where they're headquartered. Environment: It can be a little noisy at times, but the eclectic design and decor of the establishment makes up for it.

During my most recent visit, my order came without all of the add-ins despite the fact that I only requested “no pico”. When I took my taco to the front, the cashier (who was not manning a register at the time) huffed and took my receipt while walking to the back. He brought all the sides in cups as if it was a build your own taco bar. Additionally, every employee from the cashier to waiters were rude. I was intentionally smiling and thankful during every encounter to make sure I was being courteous, but they still made no attempt to be even relatively nice. This location has, unfortunately, become less and less competent since the other locations in the city opened. I recommend visiting the location on 1604 or the one on Wurzbach since they are the closest to the Quarry.

I WANT MY $6 BACK!

But, I’d rather “leave it on the (dirty) table” considering the lack of service provided. I’m here right now, google says its “busier than usual” but seriously there are four other tables and like 3 people at the bar, and if this is “busy”? I can see why; who wants to come to a place where “tell me what was GOOD” is a shorter answer than “tell me what wasn’t good”?? 🤷🏼‍♀️😭

Long story short, find another Torchy’s. I have been to one in ATX & then one in Uptown SATX, both once, and it rocked sooo after a massage I was psyched for days knowing I’d come here for lunch afterwards.

The guys stocking silverware & running food were the best part of my visit & they were just doing their jobs. Chipotle sauce was good.

Beyond that? Register girl was not just not helpful, but couldn’t seem to help me get my order right without a small act of congress & food runners help: ONE grilled shrimp taco with pickled onions on the side. Water cup. That’s IT!

My taco came in a decent amount of time considering everything is made to order, but I wished I had ordered more when I saw how skimpy it was. My pics show after I put my sauce on it, but still, puny and pathetic - even Taco Cabana shells are stuffed more, and cheaper! My taco was cold to the touch, & I easily got more onion volume than food itself as the pic will show. Booth tables were dirty and again, it wasn’t busy!! Why?

I come to the massage place for pain relief pretty regular & again, was psyched to know ots near Torchy’s but!! Pulling up the map to write this review I see there is Panera & Cava nearby, so I guess my regular spot for lunch after y appointment will have to be there… ☹️

Torchy’s!!!! I REALLLLLLLLY WANTED TO LOVE YOU; get better and maybe I’ll give you a shot in a few months or something, but I cannot recommend you!!!

PS Ummmm WHERE is...

My daughter and I visited the Lincoln Heights location on 5/12. We had lunch in the bar and our bartender was Charlie. Charlie was AWESOME, friendly, upbeat, easy going. She really added to the fun atmosphere of our lunch.

I live in San Marcos and asked her if she knew what happened to the managers from that location when they closed. She did! Nissa was one of those managers and she is now at the Lincoln Heights location.

For years in San Marcos, I had issues with my order CONSTANTLY. It was clear that no one was reading the kitchen ticket. Every delivery I had was wrong, even table service was wrong, every time. I reached out to corporate and it was fixed for a little while, but then it started happening again. That manager left and so the next time it happened, I brought my entire delivery order back to the store and showed the managers on duty, Nissa and Jay, the kitchen ticket and I opened my tacos. Without even finishing my sentence, they both immediately saw what was wrong, they rushed a correct order, and I haven't had an issue at any Torchy's location since. I attribute that entirely to corporate involvement and especially Nissa and Jay. They were able to enforce what the previous manager wasn't.

The way corporate, Nissa, and Jay handled it are why I still go to Torchy's. That and the fried avocado tacos are from another world.

It was such a pleasure catching up with Nissa again and I left feeling like we had become friends....

Torchy's food is great. I think they have the best queso in the area, though their tacos are overpriced for what you get. That being said, this location is SLOW. I have ordered both take out and delivery from them and they are regularly over 30 minutes late on their estimated times. Once I ordered just an order of chips and queso for pickup, and it took them 45 minutes. I pestered the young girl at the counter multiple times, and she'd just shrug and say it wasn't ready. It wasn't until I demanded to talk to the manager (which I hate doing but come on, it's only an order of queso!) that he was like wait, that's all you ordered? And then walked to the back and came out with my food. That's all it would've taken the girl had she any motivation to do her job.

The delivery service is even slower. I was recently quoted 90 minutes from order to delivery, and the food didn't arrive until 2 hours later. It honestly makes it not worth it. I'd rather go to Velvet Taco for better tacos but subpar queso.

UPDATE: I have no one to blame but myself. I ordered delivery from this location against my better judgment, and was once again disappointed. I called when my order was 40 minutes late, only to be told that the dasher had arrived, picked up my food, then never moved, so my order had been canceled. They graciously offered me a full refund 🙄 a lot of good that does me now...no food after waiting hours and...
