Apparently this place is known for their famous chicken wings, it sounded promising, but my experience was kind of mixed
Food āāāā
They serve their wings in two styles, wet and dry rubs, I ate the dry garlic parmesan and the wet buffalo and curry flavour, along with some potato wedges. The first thing I ate was the dry rub. When I took a bite, my taste buds were met with an explosion of parmesan-flavored sand along with the chicken having an overcooked steak texture, despite it being a chicken wing. Maybe they cooked it wrong or maybe it's just their style and it's not for me, but I've had dry rubs from other places before, and none were close to as bad as this.
So far this review seems pretty negative but was rated four stars, that's because of the wet rubs. THIS is the reason why the wings were known to be good, it was nothing like the Parmesan. The curry flavour was on point with a great balance of sweetness and spice, the chicken itself wasn't dry at all, but that could've been from the sauce. Same for the buffalo, I thought it would have an average buffalo flavor, but it had a unique taste to it and was pretty great all around, just like the curry. The wedges were also pretty good, and I found it pretty cool you could order a wing sauce to dip it in. These wings almost made up for the dry rubs, but if those were good, then this would definitely be a five-star.
Service āāāā
Nothing was wrong with any of the service, the staff was nice and they even let you try samples of the sauces. While they do take a long time to serve the wings, it's probably because they're mostly crowded, and they let you know it'll take some time that on the menu since they're more homemade and fresh. But I feel like they could've cooked their wings a little less longer, and I was disappointed with the dry rubs.
Atmosphere āāā
Not only was it somewhat cramped in there, but it wasn't entirely clean, bits of food lying on some of the floor and a table didn't look like they've been cleaned for a while. But I understand why its a little cramped, its a small store to fit a lot of stuff inside, and you can always wait or eat outside since they have tables out there too.
Overall it did live up to what it was known for, just not the dry rubs. They seemed to have a good variety of other foods too, such as some breakfast choices and other things besides wings, but I'll try those if I end up visiting again, and definitely get just wet rubs...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFirst, I gotta say they are hiring! Go Apply Today! This is a go-to spot for wings if you're local or visiting. If you have anyone staying with you for a couple of days, then make sure you take them here. I have been going to Wayne's wings for years. Back when he started off Austin Highway. I'm glad they opened one on the west side. There were about 16 people waiting inside when I walked in. I tried calling prior, which you should FYI, but they didn't answer. Now I know why. If anyone else were to see this wait, it would discourage them and leave. At first, they were taking more orders than they were putting out. It was hot and everyone was tired of looking at each other. I waited, probably 10 or 15 minutes in line with 3 people in front of me. I ordered the 8 piece bone-in Buffalo Ranch and spicy garlic parmesan. My wife ordered the 4 piece honey bbq boneless. It took a minute for the orders to catch up. The guy at the front counter was nice to the kids and laughing. Chef DJ kept coming out to people he recognized who were waiting for a while. He would go and check the status of their order. Orders were finally coming out fresh and hot. More people were coming in to pick up an online order. Finally, after 20 minutes, Chef DJ came up to me and asked my name for the order. It came out shortly after. I have no complaints on the wait. They are short staffed and make their wings fresh. They are doing their best to handle all the orders. If Wayne reads this, I'll help you open up Wayne's Wings #3! Great job also to the cooking staff! Food was mouth watering...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI discovered Wayne's Wings at their first location a few months ago and couldn't stop telling everybody how good the wings are here and the presentation and everything was on point! But after visiting the location on Bandera Rd I decided I will not be supporting this business any more. I was told my food would be ready at a certain time and I expected it to take an extra 5-10 minutes or so. I waited for 30-40 minutes before my food was given to me. My food was sitting on their counter while I sat there waiting. I saw my food on the counter and saw the cashier check the name on the receipt 4 times before she finally asked me for my name again and showed me my food. I did not receive my ranch with my wings and my drink was not given to me. At this point I was so Frustrated I took my wings and walked out because I was in a rush. Finally getting home to eat my food and my order didn't even have the ingredients i ordered it with (spicy garlic parmesan and Spicy Honey Lemon pepper) There was hardly any parmesan on the wings and there was absolutely no honey on my other wings. This is horrible service. I will be buying my wings from pluckers from now on. I hope someone reads this review and...
