Ok.... so I've been on a "Wing Quest" and was told this is THE place. Naturally, I was all meh... we'll see.
I would like to say for the record that yes, this is THE place. Just a humble little spot in a run down strip mall with a DIY parking lot for the business.
Nothing fancy in the inside for decor, not a lot of staff, no extras lying about. This is bare bones, simple and mostly awards for "Best Wings" on the walls with a couple of personal touches.
Tables are clean though.
Wasn't sure how to order so we got 20 wings, small fry and 2 waters - about $50.
These wings are not small. Should have gotten 6 or 10 wings and the fries. The small fries are huge. So that $50 feeds two adults for two meals or one meal and some late night snacks. Either way, a solid value.
Two aspects to the food: cooking and sauce.
Cooking - perfect. Every wing was perfectly cooked. The crispy skin was perfect. So good it's kinda absurd. And big. Big, hot, crispy, perfect wings. Daaaamn good.
Sauce - I wasn't ready. Not being a native Texan, I like sauce. As in slather my BBQ in sauce ala Kansas City. However, having been here quite a spell now, I've become accustomed to Texas "sauce." But when these guys say "wet" they mean sopping wet in a pool of sauce wet. I got 4 different kinds, all four pretty different and tasty. Skip the buffalo sauce, yeah it's really good, but it's still in the realm of every other Buffalo sauce you've had, except on a much better wing. The other sauces is where it's at. Sweet, tangy, spicy... All without overwhelming. And there's around 2 dozen wet sauces to try. Maybe a dozen dry sauces.
I'm definitely going back for more. Thanks Nick for the recommendation - totally spot on. Totally delicious. Looking forward to late night snacks and going back to deep dive into the other sauces.
Apparently they have some other food as well, but I probably will never try any of it. Those wings are chicken-crack...

Sometimes, you feel the need for wings. The idea may nest in your mind for days until, eventually, you can bear no longer and take action.
That's what happened to us, and living in San Antonio, we knew it might be touch to find some truly world class wings. We checked out reviews and picked Wayne's Wings to answer our craving.
We made the right choice.
The location is not some prominent, high rent boutique in the swanky part of town. Instead, its located in an unpretentious space on the north side, just a colorful storefront in a shopping center. We know many of the best food treasures live in such spots, and we want our money to pay for food, not rent, so that's all good.
Inside, we found comfortable air conditioning, plenty of tables, and a clean setting. We were struck by the number of awards on the walls, many from San Antonio outlets like local news stations, but also many from national press outlets like major magazines. They all said the same thing - Best Wings in Texas.
Oh, boy!
The team was super friendly, even allowing me to sample one of the sauces. They came out to say hi after a while, too, making sure we were happy and showing obvious (and fully justified) pride in their wings.
The food. Oh my goodness. Absolutely world class wings, with plenty of juicy meat and the perfect wing texture. These weren't those skinny, desiccated little things you get at lesser restaurants. These were big, sumptuous wings from big, strong chickens who must work out all the time.
And the sauce! I ordered the Buffalo, a one-flame option for hotness. The heat was there, though, and just right. It was enough to warm the palette without slowing you down. The flavor was perfect - the exact Buffalo flavor you crave: not sweet, not cloying, just delicious.
When the need for wings takes you, go to Wayne's. Not only can you not go wrong, you can't...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting Wayne's Wings located at 4453 Walzem Rd, San Antonio, TX 78218, This place truly knows how to take wings and fries to a whole new level. Allow me to share my delightful experience.
First and foremost, I indulged in their Wayne's combo, which consisted of six delectable Duke flavored Bone-in Wings and a side of garlic parmesan flavored fries. The moment the food arrived at my table, it was evident that freshness was a top priority for Wayne's Wings. Each wing was perfectly cooked, with a crispy exterior and tender, juicy meat inside. The flavors were spot-on, especially the Duke flavor that left me craving more!
The accompanying garlic parmesan fries were a delightful surprise. The combination of garlic and parmesan brought a savory and tangy twist to the otherwise classic fries. They were crispy, seasoned to perfection, and complemented the wings beautifully. Every bite was a burst of deliciousness!
The quality of the food at Wayne's Wings was unparalleled. The ingredients used were undoubtedly fresh, and the attention to detail was apparent in every aspect of the meal. The staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring that my dining experience was nothing short of exceptional.
Now, I must admit, the only minor setback was the pricing for the six-piece combo. While the taste and quality were undoubtedly outstanding, the price could be considered a little steep for the quantity of wings. However, considering the impeccable flavors and the overall dining experience, it's a small price to pay for such culinary delight.
In conclusion, Wayne's Wings exceeded all my expectations. The wings were bursting with flavor, the fries were divine, and the service was impeccable. If you're a wing enthusiast or simply someone who appreciates well-executed, mouthwatering food, Wayne's Wings is...
