Embarking on a culinary adventure within the fascinating realm of the San Diego Zoo, my family found ourselves faced with a tantalizing conundrum: where shall we appease our hunger pangs? With a myriad of dining options, we sought the guidance of a Zoo Keeper to unlock the gate to gastronomic satisfaction. The name that resounded in their knowledgeable voice was none other than Albert's Restaurant, an establishment paying homage to the majestic gorilla himself.
Upon entering, our discerning eyes were instantly captivated by the aesthetically pleasing decor, which transported us to a realm of visual delight. The pièce de résistance, however, was an enchanting waterfall, cascading gracefully and providing an idyllic backdrop for our culinary escapades. Our server, the affable Savanah, exuded warmth and patience as she tended to our every need. Her culinary acumen shone through as she deftly navigated the menu, offering invaluable insights and recommendations.
While it must be acknowledged that the prices at Albert's Restaurant were on the higher end, the quality of the fare more than justified the investment. I, for one, embarked on a delectable journey with their double stacked chicken sandwich accompanied by truffle fries. Every bite was a revelation—the chicken, flawlessly cooked, retained its tenderness, while the breading remained exquisitely crisp throughout the entirety of the meal. Even my notoriously selective younger brother, known for his discerning palate, found solace in the birria tacos, which he savored with undeniable pleasure. The accompanying sauce provided a symphony of flavors that danced upon his taste buds.
Not to be outdone, my parents opted for the fish tacos, a choice they deemed nothing short of sublime. The marriage of delicate fish and zesty accompaniments elicited rapturous exclamations of delight from their satisfied palates.
To conclude our zoological feast, we embarked on a dessert safari, sampling both available confections: the Salted Caramel Vanilla Crunch Cake and the Flourless Chocolate Torte. The Salted Caramel Vanilla Crunch Cake, a masterpiece of culinary artistry, defied my expectations. It struck a harmonious balance, the caramel intertwining flawlessly with the velvety vanilla cake, while the tantalizing crunch introduced a textural symphony. Meanwhile, the Flourless Chocolate Torte enveloped our senses with its profound cocoa essence, accompanied by macerated berries that provided a delightful contrast, accentuating the richness of the chocolate.
In summary, our encounter at Albert's Restaurant proved to be an exceptional affair. True, the prices may appear steep, with my personal indulgence alone amounting to $30. Yet, it is essential to recognize that every penny expended contributes to the noble cause of supporting the zoo, facilitating crucial research endeavors, and championing the preservation of our...
Read moreOur family has been to Albert's twice now. The first time we had great service and great food. Our second experience was, sadly, a poor one. We arrived 15 minutes early for our 12:45 reservation and were promptly seated, which was nice. After that it was mostly downhill. We waited 7 minutes for our server to come to our table. Mind you, at capacity, there were maybe 10 tables in the whole restaurant and at least 3 servers. After we ordered our drinks it was another 10 minutes until we received them. Our food took OVER FORTY minutes to be delivered to our table. I walked to the hostess stand and asked her to check on our food which she did. She told me they were backed up with to go orders. You'd think they would prioritize the food for the guests that had to make reservations to be there and maximize their experience, but sadly, this was not the case. Our server, who was very sweet, although not very attentive, brought us our food and guess what.... it was cold. Our server did bring it back in a reasonable amount of time but my problem lies with the management. Not once did a manager stop by our table to apologize for the horrendous wait times for our food or offer to do anything for us. Ive worked in restaurants as a GM for 20 years and as a rule, anytime there is an issue with a table, you visit that table and personally apologize. Afterall, its your responsibility to ensure every guest has a memorable experience. Overall, it was a very poor experience for our family of four dining at Albert's. I'd chalk it up to a rough day getting slammed with to go orders and the food IS good. But with $120 tab I expect more hospitality when I decide to dine somewhere. Maybe we should have just ordered to-go but we probably...
Read moreIf the ultimate goal of going to a restaurant is to get a nutritious meal without getting food poisoning then this place was a fail. This was about 2 PM and I had had nothing to eat since a bowl of cereal early that morning. The service was impeccable. The atmosphere was very nice and the presentation of the food was great. While visiting the San Diego zoo and not wanting to get the typical fair food, I asked around and was directed to Albert’s restaurant. The place looked nice and the staff was very friendly. The menu was varied as to cater to most taste. I ordered a flat steak salad with the steak being cooked to medium. Everything looked and tasted good. It was a $30 entrée. I believe it was their most expensive one. However, five hours later I started to have indigestion and diarrhea by midnight I was throwing up having severe diarrhea, chills, and severe stomach, cramps. It took about 36 hours before I had to recovered . The next morning I called and spoke to the manager just to let them know in case there was a systemic problem. She was gracious and understanding and informed me that she will look into it and that they had served over 50 other people the same dish and was not aware of anyone else Being sick. She even offered me a free meal if I ever get back to the zoo, which I politely refused. I offered to leave my name and phone number in case, but she never asked for it and I decided to let it go.
I am very confident that the problem was with the meat.
Hopefully, this was an isolated incident as I have a very strong stomach and had never experienced something like...
