Hamilton’s had soul. One of the best beer bars I’ve ever been to in San Diego or anywhere for that matter. Don’t come here expecting a replacement for Hamilton’s. It’s not that at all.
What it is feels corporate and unfortunately pretty soulless. Granted, they just opened, so maybe I’m being a little harsh—but first impressions matter. What I saw were some generic German beer signs you could order off Amazon, a few framed pictures of goats, and a vibe that felt like a carbon copy of every bland “new bar” popping up around town. The food menu didn’t sound appealing, and nothing about the place invited you to stay. I definitely didn’t see any reason to come back.
It’s loud—but that’s fine. What’s not fine is the complete lack of character. The layout is similar to Hamilton’s, but it’s miles away from capturing what made that bar special.
I hope it gets better. I...
Read moreEuropean beer bar concept, focused on German lagers, Belgian sours, and the American versions of these styles with a few hoppy beers mixed in. Over 30 taps, all seemingly hand-picked and very rare within the U.S., some of which I wouldn’t expect to make the trip across the ocean. Expensive but that’s to be expected with the unique options available. $9 for a .3L of Schlenkera Erle is pretty reasonable all things considered. Also a stellar wine list with a focus on regions from which the beers originate. The food menu from the kitchen around the corner from the bar is seriously good. Well-priced and some generous portions. Can’t go wrong with any choice, everything we had was delicious. Overall, a special experience and worth the trek. Busy for their first weekend and I’m sure they’ll stay busy, even in a challenging...
Read moreI got to check out this place on their grand opening night. There was a line to get in. We waited for about 15 min to get in and then there was a line to order beer. It was packed but their beer and food were worth the wait! 👍🏼
Bock has 35 + beers on tap and their kitchen serves up delicious German bites such as pretzels, bratwursts, schnitzel and much more. My absolute favorite is Chicken schnitzel sandwich. The chicken was fried to perfection…tender, crispy and full of flavor. I liked the bratwurst as well. The portion was good for a reasonable price.
Last night was also an Underberg party. I wasn’t a huge fan when taking it as a shot but it’s awesome when it’s mixed with @mommenpop for a “Mommenberg”. 🍹It was sweet, refreshing and bubbly!
I can’t wait to go back for more and...
