Not even kidding, this place has the fastest service I have ever experienced at a restaurant!
My husband, his friend and I came here for dinner soon after they opened at around 5:30, and had our food on the table in under 10 minutes!
We placed the order and was shocked when the server came out with the food.
Husband and I shared the SOTTOTERRA salad with chicken (Carrots, fennel, parsnip, onions, mixed greens, goat cheese with Chicken) The salad was so fresh that chicken was actually steaming hot! We could see that steam! And as far as how it was cooked, man the softest chicken we have ever had! Husband actually compared it to how red meat just melts in your mouth. This chicken melted in his mouth he said! The carrots, fennel, parsnips, and onions were actually all cooked and we were surprised. We expected the raw vegetables in there. A real good surprise. Only downside was that I asked for salad dressing on the side but they had mixed it all in. I informed the server and he actually brought us a plate of greens on the side when I asked for it (I told him not to take the entire thing back because I didn't want to waste food). He was also very apologetic and actually joined his hands to apologize to us. Amazing service!
MONTANARA (fried pizza bites) for the table. These were actually pretty creative. They had different toppings on each of the three pieces on the plate. One was always one was some pesto thing and the other was burrata. I was expecting them to be some pizza dough that was stuffed with cheese and then fried but it end up being just fried dough that was topped with these things. Tasted good, but it could have been a lot better.
AUGUSTA (Mozzarella, eggplant, zucchini, bell peppers, grape tomatoes) pizza, but without the sauce. I'm not a fan of red sauce so my friend told them to make it without the sauce. Not kidding, the pizza actually worked! I think it's because the vegetables on top had so much flavor on their own that it went with the cheese and the crust. I'm sure a little sauce would have made it a lot better though because it felt a little bit dry at times. But a really good pizza even without the sauce. The crust was also so fresh! We were both surprised here. We really got that authentic Pizza vibe from this one!
My favorite - the seasonal Pizza Pumpkin Cream, Bufala, Fried Onion, Basil, Hot Honey and Nduja (a spicy spreadable pork sausage) We asked for it without the Nduja because my husband's friend is vegetarian. The pizza was it really amusing of its own. Had that sweet vibe going to it because of the pumpkin cream and hot honey. As I type this review I realized that having that Nduja and they would have been perfect! I needed a little kick of spiciness to the pizza so I added crushed chili flakes but that Nduja would have made it the most perfect pizza! I think I need to go there another time just to get this!
Overall a really amazing place with some really good food! Would be passed by 30 minutes later and so how full the place was. Definitely made a good decision going...
Read moreThis restaurant is...not good. I don't understand the high praise, have you all never eaten a pizza before?
We ordered the following items: the beet salad, meatballs, and the Eva pizza.
The beet salad consisted of greens, greens, greens, some cheese, a few stray pieces of flavorless lentils, and about 4 small chunks of beets. This is not a beet salad. This is a house salad with a few pieces of beets. Although the dressing was not that bad, there were so few beets and the lentils added no flavor and barely any texture at all to this dish. Pistachios would be a much better complement to the beets and would actually have some texture and flavor (although this doesn't help if there aren't any beets in the salad in the first place). I don't understand why we were charged $15 for a plate of greens.
Next, the meatballs. The sauce was actually not bad, but the meatballs were extremely dry and not very flavourful. I don't understand how an Italian restaurant could mess up meatballs, but then again, pizza is also really hard to mess up.
Lastly, the pizza, or should I say, the floppy bread with sliced meats on it? This was not good pizza. At all. The bread was not only flavorless (please salt your bread), but the color was way too light and the pizza was SO soggy. There was barely any cheese on the pizza, and the meat was slapped on and kept falling off. This pizza was advertised as having hot honey, but we could not taste it at all. The pizza was also presented in an extremely sloppy way. It was cut into 4 very irregular and weird pieces, and the pepperoni pieces were all stuck together.
How can an Italian restaurant known for their pizza serve such a monstrosity to their guests?
Not only was the food extremely middling, the service was also nothing special. If anything, we felt that the staff at the restaurant were arrogant due to the popularity of the restaurant and didn't really seem to care about us at all. I normally wouldn’t comment on this as I feel that food is more important than service, but it's pretty disappointing to go to a highly rated restaurant with poor food AND service.
I know my review was harsh, but I felt harshness was necessary to counteract all the raving reviews of this restaurant. I am rating this restaurant 1 star because I could not find any redeeming qualities that would make me recommend this restaurant to anyone.
As out of towners, we were extremely disappointed as this was the "best" pizza San Diego has to offer. We should've honestly spent our last night eating another meal at Mitch's Seafood (a restaurant that actually deserves...
Read moreVERY VERY POOR SERVICE. The second I walked in I was faced by a worker that looked absolutely MISERABLE to be there. “Can I help you MAAM”, what in the world? Not even, “Hello, welcome to Buona Forchetta”. So unprofessional. I asked her if there was any chance we (party of 3) could dine as we missed our reservation which was a few hours ago due to my mother not feeling well. She practically blew me off and just said “yeah you can sit outside if you wait 15 minutes”. I told her I would call my parents whom I told to wait in the car as it was rainy and cold, they ended up saying it would be okay since the restaurant has outdoor heaters. I turned back to the RUDE young “lady” and said that we would be okay with sitting outside. She pointed to a small table and chair and said we could sit there. Then half heartedly took the menus and dumped them on the table and left.
I thought all hope was lost.. until we met Yaya; this young lady did a phenomenal job to greet me and my parents and even offer if we would like to move to a seat indoors as party did not follow up on their reservation if we gave her a few minutes. Yaya checked up on us to see if everything was okay and tasking good. She even said Happy Birthday to my mother which was so sweet!!
The entire night our waiter was in a rush to take our order, and it was so hard to ask for anything from him. My risotto had uncooked rice in it, and my dads ravioli was cold inside. Everything was RUSHED! Even when the busboy came to grab our plates, the longhaired-thin-beanie wearing man dropped a plate on me and it got sauce on my shirt. He didn’t even say sorry!!! Just grabbed and went. Then was looking at me from across the room, just like the rude girl from the beginning who’s in the plaid coat, darker brown skin, and a nose like a WITCH.
I want to thank Yaya for making our night better. It’s important to own/run a business and to hire people who want to be there and make sure it thrives. Not teenagers who can careless about service and are there to joke with coworkers and...
