I was hunting through the reviews for a good place to eat when I found windan sea cafe. As I read good review after good review I became impressed-and hungry. So I jumped into the beach wagon and trucked over. Had to hunt for a spot, but found a good one. I couldn't wait to meet the owner, from what the other reviews say, he values every customer.
WRONG. As I walked through the door, not only was I not greeted, he actually greeted the people behind me walking in- completely ignoring me!! They then passed me to walk around to the ordering area (the place is laid out weird) where they began a conversation- this 17 year old girl that he seemed infatuated with!! (she was not a relative, just some old custmr) I walked around to the ordering area, anxiously waiting to order that roast beef sandwich that I had set my heart on earlier when I was reading reviews. I was still being ignored....then the owner gives me this weird stare and an empty "hi". As if he didn't notice that I was the first person in the door. He then looks back to the 17 year old and "gives her a hard time" in his own words. I thought to myself, is this guy on something? I walked over and grabbed a lemonade and back to the ordering area. At this point the owner starts asking other customers (who are sitting) if the need to pay, etc. At this point I'm thinking what the F... I've been standing here feeling like a dope for almost 10 minutes. So I left my lemonade on the table and left. Don't even try this place. I hope this pedo leaves town soon. I am a real business owner and I would never treat a customer the way I was treated. Even the other patrons could see there was something wrong. Most awkward experience I've had in...
Read moreWe come to Café Vahik at least twice-4xs a year during our San Diego/La Jolla vacations
It's a MUST STOP for our coffee! Even if we dont stay in La Jolla, we will drive up here just for the coffee, at least once during our stay, or I wont feel complete. Then, I crave their coffee everyday until we visit SD again months later
These people are seriously magicians. Starbucks has NOTHING on this couple. I swear, it has to be sourcery lol Their hot caramel macchiato, the white choc mocha too, perfection! WHY CANT OTHER COFFEE PLACES BE THIS GOOD?!
I had a poppyseed muffin and my friend got the blueberry muffin as well, both were delicious btw.
This time around they had amazing Thermos' and both my friend and I got one. They made the perfect souvenirs bc I am seriously OBSESSED w how tasty the coffee is here. I was looking everywhere for a hat / cap and was sad to be leaving without something SD. But everything worked out bc I couldnt be happier to have one of my fav things (a good coffee thermos) coupled w the one place I, no matter what, will always visit in La Jolla lol so perfect! Little synchronicities like that make me so happy! Not to mention, it works great bc it kept our hot coffee hot ON OUR ENTIRE DRIVE HOME back to Phx!
We didnt even stay in La Jolla so I made my friends drive up that way just so we could get their coffee. YES, IT'S THATS GOOD. And the couple is so sweet. It feels really GOOD supporting a small business, too. I wish them nothing but success and a promise that I will ALWAYS visit their shop if Im in San Diego!
We love you Cafe Vahik!!! Cant wait to see you this fall or...
Read moreTerrific place for breakfast and lunch, and I wish I had more time to spend here before leaving. The simplicity of the place - cozy, about five tables inside and several outside, yet with that imbued feel of community and comfort - I had my first omelet, made with eggplant, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, and garlic ( I left out the fetta), and a nice cover of fresh basil leaves. It was wonderful. I have three more days to return to this place and try their Mediterranean yellowtail fish salad and other goodies on their lunch menu. The cafe latte was wonderful (they use organic beans). Another plus is that they cook in flaxseed and it's not overly oily. Of course, there is olive oil (yum) and other tasty touches. Go here. You will be...
