SERVICE and good food is how you win the game, but Covewood falls so short it feels like they didn't even start the race. While the food was very tasty, it left a sour taste in our mouths after the fact, due to the terrible service. It was our first experience at Covewood and San Diego Mission Bay Resort for my mother's birthday and we had a reservation, we arrived early to have a drink at the bar and while there was only one other couple in front of us, the bartender was moving so slow it looked like he didn't even care, no urgency at all. It took almost 30 minutes to get 4 drinks and we had to repeat the order three different times to this bartender, all while listening to other around us saying "this guy (bartender) was terrible this morning as well", so not a good start. When we got seated, we had 4 different people try to help us during drinks, apps, and the main course. Not because they were attentive but it didn't seem like anyone had the time to help us. First the bus boy said "someone would be right with you" but then ended up taking our drink & apps order but then proceeded after 15 minutes to say "your drinks aren't here yet?". After that our "main server" helped but always seemed too busy to come back, so while one manager brought our drinks, another different manager took our food order all with everyone saying "sorry sorry sorry" because they were dropping the ball. Everything took so long we realized we needed to order things in the future like drinks because we knew it was going to take another 15 to 20 minutes to bring anything. Final straw was we had wait and ask twice just for the final check, and of course because we were a party of 6 the gratuity was added for pour service. Needless to say, management should really look at what they're doing and where things need to change. While I blame the employees for no urgency, they were still upbeat but that doesn't excuse for bad efficiency, that's...
Read moreGood local beer selection and calamari. End of good stuff.
We're locals and were there on a sunny, Saturday afternoon, after playing pickleball at the resort. We sat on the patio, as one would on a nice day. Surprisingly, table service was not available on the patio.
The restaurant was SLOW with maybe five tables on two patios. There were no patrons sitting inside. When I walked up to the bar, there were three staff busy talking with each other, and one filling ice bins. The bar top was messy with used glasses and dishes that appeared as if they'd been there a while.
Nobody acknowledged me until I interrupted them to ask to order (~ 3 mins). The bartender did walk our drinks out to the patio! But I had to go inside to order, again. Passing by the hostess stand I saw a man, who I believed was the manager, and I asked him if someone could take my order outside. HINT He declined and told me that I could order at the bar. This was as he and the hostess were at the hostess stand, seating nobody; and as several staff walked/stood around.
I'm not sure what the staff duties and priorities are but it doesn't seem to be customer service. There's a need to re-train for hospitality service and staff efficiency. My friend who was a GM for the Chart House restaurant group was disappointed, as...
Read moreThis being a resort style restaurant the parking at first was a little confusing on where was okay to park as we never found dedicated restaurant parking. Once parked though, we ventured through the resort to the restaurant, which itself was pretty easy to find with the signage. We had arrived for our brunch reservation and the staff all seemed pretty busy at first, so we did stand a few minutes before being helped but I can't knock their score for them being busy. We sat on their outdoor patio (covered) which I would highly recommend. It was sunny out but shaded and being right on the water gave it a perfect breeze so it wasn't hot at all. I got the Huevos Rancheros & Chorizo (pictured) to eat and it was definitely a light and delicious dish to get your day started. The atmosphere is very relaxing and easily to over enjoy yourself. We definitely hung around and had a few drinks...1 because it was bunch but 2 because it was just such a nice view and friendly staff that we were having a great time. Plus if you love photos, they have plenty of options for getting your photo from the restaurant itself, by the water or even the oversized chair right off their patio. Would definitely recommend and plan to go back when in San Diego again as their menu had a lot of dishes that sounded...
