WHERE DEADPOOL BUYS HIS CHIMICHANGAS! I came in because I was craving some yummy Mexican cuisine and also wanted to celebrate Deadpool's comic con weekend and to grab his fav food item (I know I'm weird haha). I'm glad I came here! You can tell this is a local hangout and the staff are pretty personable. It's in a borderline grimy part of town, however don't let it deter you, I recommend visiting!
I ordered a chimichanga with chicken, green sauce and guacamole! It was AMAZING! The meal was perfectly fried and tasted so fresh. Some of the toppings provided were a little refrigerated so I didn't use them (I'm looking at you lettuce). I would recommend eating the chimichangas as they're served and with the toppings that they already placed on them. Don't add any of the other stuff they give you haha.
Seating is minimal, don't expect to bring a large group as there's only a few small tables inside. I didn't spot any seating outside. The tables are a bit dirty inside so I would recommend takeout. Humberto's is a traditional taco shop, you order at the counter and wait for your order. Once you're called, you go back up to the counter to pick up your food.
Note: I ordered fries and they were a little limp, like something you'd get at weinerschnitzel. Not bad, but...
Read moreI’d heard plenty of hype about Humberto’s Taco Shop and their “best Cali Burrito in San Diego,” so I decided to give it a try. The price is definitely appealing at $11, especially for the size of the burrito, but the $4 upcharge for guac and sour cream feels excessive — those are pretty much essentials for a Cali burrito.
The carne asada itself was just okay. A bit chewy, but edible. The bigger issue was the freshness of the other ingredients: the pico and guac tasted old, which was off-putting right from the first bite. The fries were probably the most disappointing part — not fresh, limp, and far from crisp. For a Cali burrito, where fries are the centerpiece, that’s a major letdown.
Overall, it was hard not to be disappointed, especially given the reputation. Sure, the price point makes it tempting if you skip the extras, but without guac and sour cream, is it really a Cali burrito? For me, it...
Read moreLocal hole in the wall taco shop with some sketchy characters that eat here. Stereotypical painting of a lady Saint on the wall. Graffiti everywhere, and carved on almost every table. Walking in be prepared to be bombarded by homeless asking for change. Aside from all these things, this place is AWESOME! I've been coming here since I was 10 years old and seen many management changes. This place still offers DELICIOUS tacos, burritos, carne asada fries or chips and the prices beat anyone! Yes they take cards, but they also have an ATM on site. I have not eaten inside the restaurant since I was 10 because it is a little too sketch. The parking situation has improved since they purchased the lot next door, but I still prefer to park on the street. A extra side of guacamole for $. 92? Where can you find such a place? No where! Take your food to go...
