Best burritos in town, but the WORST SERVICE! They are usually rude at this shop but the delicious burritos usually make up for it. But, honestly, their service is appalling!!! I went today and, as always, they were unfriendly and unprofessional. The register people are usually cleaning, picking things up from the floor, moving mops and step ladders (especially around closing time) and touching the food with their bare hands without washing. This always bothers me but the food is wrapped in paper so I can usually ignore it because, as soon as I get home, I toss the wrapping and wash my hands immediatelly; but today was the last straw. My boyfriend got locked in their bathroom because the door was malfunctioning and I asked them to help. Another customer asked them to help as well, since he wanted to use the bathroom too and the key wasn't working so he couldn't get the door to open from the outside, and NOTHING. The woman at the register simply acknowledged us and did nothing but tell the guys in the kitchen, who did nothing. 10 minutes later, another woman came back from break and the 1st woman mentioned the bathroom situation to her, which she ignored and went to the second register to ring up customers. I asked the 1st woman yet again to help and she deferred to the second woman who ignored her again and took orders. Finally, my boyfriend had to use a credit card to jimmy the door open and came out and they didn't even flinch when he complained. We both actively complaining about this and they basically ignored us. No apologies, no acknowledgement, no help whatsoever! Absolutely rude!!! If they would have had a person with claustrophobia or anyone with a medical condition, they would be facing a lawsuit. This is the last time I go to this restaurant. I live near them and frequently shop but after today's poor service I refuse to go back! In terms of the food, the burritos are absolutely delicious but the rest of their food is bellow average. The tamales are dry, tough and flavorless. The "nachos" taste of burnt tortillas. The quesadillas are unremarkable. If you want to get a great burrito, they truly are great. But you'll have to deal with detestable, rude and unhygienic service at the register. Be warned! For me:...
Read moreOk, many moons ago when I was visiting family, after a long day in OB, I was looking for a California Burrito that would blow my socks off. I asked 7 people during the day, and 4 of them recommended Ortiz’s. Best. Recommendation. Ever!!! When I moved back to San Diego several years later, I made a point to find a place to live where Ortiz’s would be easily accessible. Now, just because they have the best CA burrito in San Diego, doesn’t mean I’d keep going there over and over, every single week. No, this place is family owned and run, puts love in all the food they make, and puts a smile on anyone who visit’s face (oh, and the hot sauce is bonkers, too). Brothers Juan and Luis are always holding down the fort, and the rest of the Ortiz family and crew are making magic 6 days a week (on Sundays they rest 🙏🏽). Thank you all, so much for all your awesomeness. If you’re reading this, map it out, stop at an atm and grab some cash for a tip, and head directly here for the best Mexican food and...
Read moreALERT! YOUR NEW FAVORITE TACO SHOP! It is our new favorite now! We had a great time at this taco shop. Here is what makes all the difference, folks: friendly & casual customer service. They definitely had regulars in line & they chatted, knew their special requests (I heard one ask knowingly, “guac on the side?”), and generally made it a great atmosphere. It was always busy but the line moved along well.
Yes, the lighted board with the menu has a couple missing letters, but you kinda expect that. They have one tv in the corner, and had it on the Mexico soccer game. Nothing blaring or annoying.
The seating is comfortable & adequate until they expand. 😁
TIP—They have no public bathroom, so plan accordingly. TIP—Try the fish tacos! You’re in San Diego so you’ve gotta try them. Tasty! TIP— Order the mini tacos; they are like four street tacos, and they’re...
